Is this guy truly and utterly amazing. Yeah im from Mass., but if I wasnt Id still praise this guy. The greatest clutch hitter of all time. 2006 AL MVP. Its truly amazing what he can do at the plate. Its something to relish cause these guys dont come around too often. Give him props. Oh yeah before i forget.... YANKEES SUCK!!

Giants fan here, but I like the way this guy attacks the ball, reminds me of Mo Vaughn a few years back.

He is No way the most clutch guy ever and he hasn't been good for that long he was decent in Minnesota Great in Boston and he is horrible at defense...

Every american league team has a DH.. so don't say he's only mediocre or rip on his ability to play defense... My point is every American League gets a DH, so putting him at defense doesn't indicate he sucks.
If one never played defense you probably wouldn't be as good as those who play defense on a daily basis.
So saying, "he's not very good at defense" is pretty ridiculous since he has no need to.. I'll say it for the 3rd time :
Every American league team gets a DH

So who else do you elect as the greatest all time clutch hitter if he's not
-
07-31-2006, 09:11 PM #16
there's plenty better then him too many to mention!!!
-
07-31-2006, 09:11 PM #17
if he was a good fielder....he would be playing the field..& another problem i have with that is that if they make it to the World series....he HAS to play the field at the NL park....bad for boston if he plays forst instead of youkolis
-
07-31-2006, 09:11 PM #18
And the reason people DH is because they do suck at defense or are getting old..
-
07-31-2006, 09:13 PM #19
Well American league has home field advantage this season so he wouldn't have to play as much!!!

bad example man..i never said he was a bad hitter...hes a great hitter. he simply isnt a complete ballplayer....if you think he is --your not thinking clearly. he has ONE of FIVE tools that they consider for ballplayers...he is a great hitter..cant run/field/throw well at all....thats the truth

im a huge Bo Sox fan as well. Ortiz is definetly the best clutch hitter in baseball right now, but certaintly not of all time. he will definetly be considered for AL MVP. he was 2nd in voting last year behind ARod and it could have went either way. you say he sucks at defense...well he plays 1B. its not like he plays SS or makes these web gems catches in the OF. he is an average defensive firstbaseman. and i bet that nearly every team in baseball would trade their current 1B for Ortiz (with the exception of maybe StL, Phil, and ChC).

Albert Pujols is in my opinion the best pure hitter in baseball right now, I watched them play against Philly and done 0-2 in the count he blasted a homerun. From what my dad has told me about Ted Williams and what I have read there area alot of comapirsons. Almost every pitcher he faces says that when you get the guy down you still dont have the advantage because he can do whatever he wants with the ball. If he hadnt got hurt i think he would have caught Barry for the record. Ortiz is a good hitter no doubt but best clutch hitter ever this far into his career its just a little to early to give him that.

Pujols is awesome without a doubt. I honestly dont think he would have sustained the pace at which he was hitting HRs and passed Bonds' 73.

Yeah very true. Not many guys have someone with Manny's caliber hitting behind them. Barry was a more dangerous hitter when Kent was hitting behind him (back when Kent was good)
