Has anyone ever told you to hurry up on the bench
Im currently in week 3 of german block training so i do 8 sets of 6 reps for bench press. i dont take really long breaks... maybe 30 secs to a minute
everytime i would lie on the bench i would see this guy standing behind me doing nothing but i thought nothing of it
at my 5th set he comes to me and asks me "how many sets do you have left?"
Me: "3 sets"
Him: "you've done 5 sets already"
Me: "yes i know"
Him: "Ok could you keep it up?"
Me: Excuse me? Are you telling me to hurry up?
Him: You've been on there for 10 minutes already
Me: Well im going to be on this for 20 minutes more if i feel like it
and he walks away
THE NERVE OF SOME PEOPLE
I really wanted to punch his face in... but i resisted

At my previous gym there was a sign stating that a member could not occupy a piece of equipment for more than 20 minutes.
Utter crap i say. When something's occupied i sub that exercise for another exercise. Or, if the bench isn't crowded.. as if i can cut in.
There's nothing more annoying than being the dude who tells the other dude to hurry up.
(although i'm sometimes that guy when i'm in contest prep mode )

You have to resort to the evasive/semi-psychopath answers.
Like "how many sets do you have left?"
"i just lost count because you asked me, now i gotta start all over again.. f**k.."
or "how many sets do you have left?"
"I have a few"
or "as many i have left till im done"
or "when you getting off the bench?"
"ill be off when im done (smile)"
"could you hurry it up please?"
i have multiple sclerosis ass hole" than drop a weight and let them pick it up!!!
you get the point. people are easy to throw off. most of the time they'll be so confused if your throw mixed signals like your serious but your not they'll just say "ohhh ok" and leave. take your time. but there are times when you need to share (if the gyms really packed and theres a line forming) than ill just ask them if they want to work in. but imo, first come first serve.

I've been asked if I was done with a machine, but never asked to hurry up.
I wear headphones all the time at the gym, that way people don't talk to me.
I go to the gym at the night though, and usually everyone there is extreamly nice.

one time my lil brother was doin a warm up set of dips. he did 4 reps. some little sonavabitch says "Ha. you cant even do ten reps?" then he laughed a litttle. cofused....and angered my brother was about to utter somethin, but he was so blown away by the ignorance of the statement that he couldnt get the words out. i think he said "huh?"
there were so many things wrong with that statement e didnt no where to begin. lik....why 10? how do you know my program calls for 10? or how woul you assume thatwas a work set? Or what magic is there in 10?
one other time, the same brother(poor guy) was doin curls. he was having and awesome time with his right arm. his last 3 reps just would barely go up. The last full rep was like a 15 second rep, the concetration tremendous, gritting his teeth, eyes shut, really feeling each fiber fire in sink at the weight slow rises. It was one of those reps where you didnt think it would come up cuz it took so long, but you slowly suprize yourself. And the arm doesnt budge for another rep for more than an inch. GREAT STIMULATION!
SO THEN, he does his left arm. He gets to that pont where they are gettin tough. he grits his teeth, closes his eyes, and goes into super intense mode. But, for some reason, the reps are goin up easier. "Damn!" he thinks "im so uneven, how is my left getting 2 more reps than my right? ****." then he opens his eyes, and he sees some little sonovabitches fingers helpin him up wth the weight. Amazed he shakes his head at the ****er....but he keeps his fingers there...so he yells "STOP!" Finally he stops my brother ends the set and says. "WHAT R U DOIN?!"
" yuou look like you neeeded a spot" he says
"NO. LOOK SON, IF I WAS BENCHING, I NEEDED A SPOT. YOU DONT INTERUPT SOMEONES SET UNLESS THEY R IN DANGER!"
"oh..sorry"

He walked off.

i have plenty of people ask me "how many sets do you have left?" and it usually doesnt bother me, but if they decide to stand and wait right there for my last couple sets it really gets to me. then i'll just do the rest of my sets as planned but add at least 4more sets with 5minutes or so of light stretching between them.
him - "i thought you only had 2 more sets?"
me - "these are my cool down sets, i dont count them"

This actually happened.
Before I bench, I usually throw 135 or 185 on and take a wide grip and bring the weight down slow and set it on my chest to get a good stretcfh.
I was doing this with my eyes shut and my headphones in, when some douchebag ran over and upright rowed the bar off me and racked it, like he thought I was stuck under the weight.
I think he thought he saved my life, until he saw me throw 3 wheels on the bar 2 sets later.

No, but it gets on my nerves when a group of people take it in turns to use the same machine. The one and only machine in the whole building.

Asking "How many more sets you got?" -- no problem
Asking "Could you hurry it up?" -- big problem
Minding your own business in the gym -- priceless
Ya'll should come to East Tokyo Gold's and see the scrawny guy who screams when he does curls with an empty EZ curl bar and uses the benches/equipment next to him as a place to set his cellphone and towel.

I put the weight down...I cussed him with all the words i knew.
Shit.. i followed him around the gym and cussed him..watching him shrink into each corner and shadow.
Then i stopped abruptly...turned around and went back to rowing.
No one's troubled me since.

If someone happens to be using a piece of equipment I want then i'll sub and go for another exercise. What I hate I think MORE than people that ask if you can hurry up is the ones that just...hang around near you. Waiting for you. Watching you. Not doing anything but ****ing watching and waiting...I HATE THAT!

You know..'that guy'. Who could do well.. but at the last minute chickens out.
Well around contest prep he comes to guys competing and starts to lay down the smack like he's been there... yuh know: "walked the walk"
I think i was on a low-carb day at that point... I don't have cheat days so that compounded it. And it seemed that he just was following me around talking shit.. finding fault whereever.
So i snapped.
Followed HIM around instead.
It was crazy man.
When next i came back to the gym.. people didn't talk to me or anything.
That's how i happen to like it.

You guys are funny. If you read the threads on here about what you don't like at your gym. Most of you guys complain about people hogging equipment or not offering to let you work it.
-
I just tell people liek that to get the **** a way from me. I pay my monthly fee and i will use it as long as i wish.
