The committee also heard how the family had lost its home and most of its possessions and how the children, a 14-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy, were eager to get back in school. The family said it wanted to resettle in Memphis.

After the church settled on Thompson, real estate agent Phillips helped her pick out the house she wanted, and it was bought in Thompson's name. She took possession in February and sold it in September. Property transfer records for the resale list her as unmarried; the papers from the original sale list her as married.
She lied to the church. She told them that she wanted to move to memphis. Shopped around with a real-estate agent. Found a house that she said she wanted. Then sold the house without moving into it, and moved back to her former city.

She bought the house in Feb. never moved in, then sold it in Sept. Obviously she was just trying to make money. Buying when the housing market was low, then selling when high.

Aswell, the papers list that when she bought it she was listed as being married, yet when selling it, she is listed as unmarried.

Thompson claimed she and her family were living in an apartment supplied by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but did not invite Phillips over during the house search.
She seems to be avoiding them, and wouldn't allow them to come over to her appartment.

She scammed the church, and I hope she gets what she deserved! I feel bad for all those people who donated money for the house, only to be scammed.
