    Dexa Scan

I am going to do a dexa scan before I start my next Cycle and then do one after. I was also thinking about doing a VO2 max treadmill test with blood lactate measurements.

My question is does anyone want to see before and after results? Or is nobody interested in that kind of data.

Its basically a low power x-ray machine. It is used to check bone mineral density and Lean mass vs fat mass. It scans the entire body then gives you a x-ray picture of your body and a printout of all BCA. Its very accurate on the body comp analysis with the right operator of course.

Generally most universities that have and exercise physiology lab will have them. Where do you live I may know of a place close to you were you can get one.

Lance Armstrong's Vo2Max rating is 85, where the average healthy male is around 40. Keep that in mind when you have your test performed.

My goal is 70+, i ran one last year after coming off a 8 month training stoppage due to surgery and got 55ml/kg. I only was aerobically training for about a month prior to the test. So I was pretty happy with that. i figured I would be in the 30's. LOL, I really dont like running one though they suck bad.
The Windgate test for anaerobic power is worse though, that one really sucks a^^.

Just to let you know you probably won't be too pleased with the LBM to fat mass analysis. The readouts that we were gettin at our univerisyt all seemed quite high...I mean guys that looked to be around 14% were reading like 18! But I guess it takes in account for the intramuscluar fat too, so that's probably why the values are a little higher than oine would expect.

Really, we had a similar problem as well. We got the company out to look at it and I guess they recalibrated the machine. It seems to be working great now, we have compared it to BIA, skin fold and hydrostatic weighing. We were actually doing a study with some grad students and found the problem because the Dexa was giving us really inflated numbers similar to what you experianced.

Im more interested to see if there is any change in bone mineral density anyway.

So can anyone go to a college, even if they are not in one, and get this done, or do they need to be in a college to get this done???

I live in Kansas City Missouri by the way

well it's hard sometimes because universities are changing their policies. We used to be able to run the scans ourselves...not me, but the department, and now they have changed it and we have to get certified people in to run the dexa...even though the people in the kinesio department have been doing it for years. So if that is the case at your university then you may not be able to get one unless you participate in a study!
