administrator password forgotten?

hey guys,

I want to make a user account here on my computer for my girlfriend, but when i set up my own account (alongside the administrator account) i set mine as a limited account. The problem is is that when i made the administrator account, I have used a password that i cant remember anymore, so now I cant get into the admin account to make a new profile or change any sort of passwords. I would want to make my account an administrator account as well.

I can remember a thing where u hit F8 or something on start up to then choose to go to safe mode, but it wont work for me now!

any one able to help?

yeah F8 it should still work just boot it up and keep pressing F8 till it comes up

F8 will work buy lots of times your keyboard won't if it is a USB keyboard so you will have to go in and just delete the password altogether with the mouse then reboot without safe mode and everything should be fine.

not all makes boot to safe mode with F8. Some F5 some F11 ect ect..

Just get a key logger for that bro... One that will run in "hidden" mode lol

safe mode will just get access to the administrator acount. but that is the one with the password anyway so you wont be able to get it that way.

There is special software you can you to erase the password but if your unfamiliar it can cause damage.

worse case senario take it to a bestbuy geeksquad and they might do it for free if not theyll charge you 29

i would run a rainbow tables attack like tone da bone recommended,

ophcrack will crack most xp passwords in 10mins. there are also some recovery cd's from various companies that can reset the pw.

Have you tried the regular things like trying to enter the account without a password or trying the password "admin" or "administrator"?

It can be easily circumvented, but obviously trying these things would be the easiest and fastest before you crack it.

These all sound like illegal suggestions, if the guy has forgot his ADMIN password, then it's tough luck - o/s reinstall & start all over again, I'm sorry if you are in the right here - but doing illegal stuff mate will get you the Jail!! - on the other hand if you need to override the admin password, yes there are ways around this, most sites ask you to dowload their software which is prob malware then ask you to buy it for Full access.

but there is also a linx boot disc that will allow the admin password to be reset, as long as the computer is allowed to boot from disc..
