Bodybuilders look healthy, but are they? Are YOU?

Competitive bodybuilders aside, I am refering to the average joe (like me) that goes to the gym to stay fit, look, and feel good. I'd consider myself a healthy individual. I eat a balanced diet and follow a rigorous exercise routine. I also use steroids in moderation, which many would consider the ultimate oxymoron; using drugs is deemed as unhealthy and self destructive in society. The flip side to that coin is that the majority of society is overweight bordering on obese and unhealthy.

I use low doses (250-400mg) of testosterone for a few months once a year to help reduce catabolism while I am cutting down. Sometimes i'll add anavar to the mix, but those are the only two drugs I will now use. I take all the right precautions, know my body and what dosages work for it. I keep regular track of my blood pressure and get bloodwork done. I also have a low testosterone count naturally, so being on a cycle makes me feel like a million bucks.

Society would label me as a steroid user and throw me in the same category as a crack addict. Is this stereotype fair? Considering I take care of my body 1000x better than Joe Average whos cholesterol and blood pressure are going to cause heart disease and/or stroke, and inevitably a premature death... not to mention he looks like a fat slob while pounding away mcdonalds hamburgers every day?

Just a rant, but your thoughts are appreciated.

EDIT - Not saying competitive bodybuilders are unhealthy... but that is a whole different ball game with different variables and such because of the low level of bodyfat involved, use of diuretics, etc.

Well I have quite an obsessive/addictive personality and my current obsession of the last 4 years is way healthier than my previous obsessions of taking substances that we don't mention here and drinking myself into oblivion on a daily basis, could my health be better? - yes, but could my health be worse? - yes and it could and it has been, alot, so its all relative to me and I look and feel a million times better than I ever have before!

Your comments don't even make sense Ruhl.

If you compare the average person who goes to the gym to stay in shape, yes they are in better shape than the average obese person who is walking around getting no exercise/eating tons of sugar, fried foods/drinks very little water etc..
But on the flipside, many of these ppl who visit the gym on a normal basis are the very same ppl you see in the bars 2-3nights/wk and are also doing rec. drugs and the gym is merely an outlet in their life that they do as a hobby or to look better on the beach or while out at the club.

Too many different ppl out there to say who is healthy and who's not, very few ppl visit a doctor on a regular basis for bloodwork and checkups and the majority of people in today's society do not follow a healthy lifestyle dispite their looks.

I could be healthier for me incorporating aerobic activities is very important. I have found that some gear/cycles get me winded and prevent me from doing running/swimming/surfing and etc. It's an important topic and I am glad you brought it up. Keeping the whole body healthy is important to me and that includes the heart, lungs, and muscles.
