Quality of advice gone down??
Hi all. It seems to me that this site has become awash with newbies. Now that is no problem in itself, but I just seem to see lots of dubious advice being added to threads.
Just seems like the quality of advice has gone down. Anyone else notice this?
Is it because the number of members has gone up more than the number of vets/senior members?
What does everyone think?

Well, I am a "newbie" myself to this website. But its just because I never spent much time on computers. I joined because this is a great way to communicate and share ideas of common interest. However, even seasoned vets can offer bad advise sometimes.

Newbies that are here to learn and might be soaking up some bad advice.
I believe this website is the best thing on earth. Lots of experienced people here taking time out of their schedules to educate people with info that is often extremely hard to obtain otherwise and often dangerous if not dispensed. These fellas are real-life charity workers in my eyes.
Now, emotional moment over, I'm just concerned the fantastic values of this site are being lost a little...

i think you are correct... but you just have to know whos advice you should take... its like that in the real world to.. you have to pick who you take advice from... there are still some seriously good members here that give great advice...
there is a reason people with high post counts get more respect...

It has been like that for awhile, where have you been?

I think there are a variety of reasons for this. The foremost seems to me that the same questions get asked, day after day, by the endless flow of newbs that refuse to search, so some just get tired of sorting through all the bs to find the questions worth answering.

I dunno why newbies can't or won't search for answers to questions, but after a while, ya get exasperated answering the same thing over and over again. It's even more exasperating when newbies contradict your advice, when it's the sort of thing you deal with professionally.
Oh well.

Shit if you all feel like that and are going to start threads like this than you should at least name names !! If people are giving the wrong or bad info to any members on the board then shouldn't members dispute the info on the thread( not in the lounge) to dis credit the persons info so when newbies or anyone for that matter reads the post they can get a general idea on what is right and what is wrong... Not sure who you all are referring to with this thread but it can be definitely taken out of context and offensive.. If the quailty of advise is getting bad lets make it known who is giving it so it can be addressed. We make fun of people's post in the hall of shame thread for giving bad advise so why can we name name's here???

I agree with IMagetbigger. Its very rare that the questions asked by new people are something new. More then 90% of the question have been answered way to many times. People are just to dam lazy to click on search button. So people over time get more annoyed and answer the questions more briefly. Whenever someone joins I think they should get a private message that tells that a great percent of the answers are in search and if they dont find the answer make a thread. This would save these brief answers and allow for better responses.

So not many people here probly know me because of that and I was going to become a vet before the board rules changed( Bajan Bastard and Nark where pushing for me to be a vet or mod but then the board rules changed and I was asked by Brian to be a AR scout( thats what we where called at first ) Sorry for the rant . When a site becomes the most popular research tool for something like aas use, newbs flock in to get in on the buzz. The quality members we have here are faced with this all the time. Newbs just need to understand that the search button is there for a reason.
I do agree the quality of posts has gone downhill, I believe it is because the same questions are asked over and over. A lot of people get sarcastic and annoyed when the same people ask the same questions over and over and expect a response immediately, and when they are criticised to search, they take offense and the negative cycle just continues.
I dont know if there is much that can be done about it, other than being diligent towards the respected members here and allowing people that seem bright enough to be here, get the respect they deserve as well.

And for all newbs, research even the most informative advice given. And most importantly "RESEARCH the old threads guys. The amount of info on this site is priceless and you can't get mad when people don't respond rite away. For example I saw a thread about a guy who had gyno and complained about not getting a response for 4 hours. So the fuk what the people on this board don't get paid to hold the hands of newbs they do it to keep people safe and share there knowledge of the game with others.Be patient newbs were all lucky to be apart of a site that is so valuable.

unfortunately this is going to happen... it is no ones fault. It is just the fact that more and more people are looking into the topics. Having a url of steroid .com is obviously going to bring the greenest of the green horns in.... probably the first thing that usually comes up in google.
For most of us that have been around we are NOT used to this, but i guess we will just have to get used to it or find new homes. No matter what I won't be leaving. I like it here, and I know how to weed out the good info from the bad....
I do have to say that the admin has done a fantastic job of keeping source questions out of here and I guess as long as that doesn't change I can deal.

Also I notice that whenever a post is made you get that message about how the admin may choose to monitor your post for whatever reason, maybe that should be manditory for all new members so that they can keep the repeatative questions out of here.

In a place like this, where a certain few make the money, for them of course money rules all.
