To hunt in my province, you have to follow a general hunting safety course, and then a specialized course according to the weapons you want to use to get your "hunters card" which is necessary to buy a permit.

The specialized course for firearms and crossbows are just a basic 4-6 hours "firearms safety" course on handling, safe shooting, transport and storage.

The archery specialty course is also a handling, shooting and all that course, but there is also a practical shooting test. They want to make sure you can shoot and that your bow is properly tuned, so for the test you have to put a certain number of arrows in targets at 20, 30 and 40 yards.

That cut down a LOT on bowhunters unnecessarely wounding animals.
I think it should be required. We have a hunter safety course but you dont actually touch a weapon in the class. Doesnt make much sense...

Usually works out that if you have a gun or bow... no deer. With nothing or a camera... deer everywhere!!! I started bringing a camera with me. I'm not a trophy hunter, but after I take my first doe, I will wait for the right buck and let the little guys get bigger. So I take pictures of them!

Yeah it never fails. No gun, no bow. Big bucks. Actually for me, in bow season I see big bucks everywhere, but they are normally 60 yards plus. R***e season, the little guys will practically run you over...and I'm being literal I was walking through a bunch of pine trees when I heard something crashing through the woods then I see horns coming out and the thing came out just perpendicular to me not 10 feet away. I was walking the tree line and he must have heard me walking and assumed I was a doe. Then he just stood there infront of me looking off to my right. Never even knew I was there until I dropped the ziplock bag I was carrying lol. Probably the craziest thing that ever happened to me.
