Dog (puppy) Owners
anyone have a male dog.. and if so have you had it since it was a pup? Here's my "dilema" - i have a male pup that i got at 8 weeks old and i noticed right away that it squats when it takes a leak.. i chaulked it up to maybe he didn't know how to raise a leg yet..
its 5 weeks later, the guy is over 3 months old and still squatting.. frankly, it's embarrassing..
is this normal. if it is, when to they get the hang of the "art"?

its normal. My dog mainly squats but if he's peeing to mark his territory cause another dog is around he lifts it. It all depends on his mood really but he mainly squats like a lil bitch. lol

My dog is 7 years old and he will choose whether he squats or lifts a leg.

What kind of dog do you own? I have had a few dogs in my life. Two pits and a mini poodle. All of them squatted for a while when they were young, but eventually started lifting their leg. The first time my poodle lifted his leg he fell over. I was like 11yrs old and I still remember that. very funny My mother has two adult male dacshunds and they both squat.

A lot of male dogs will squat if they were "fixed" at a really early age.

ya some vets are whacko, just like shrinks. i can't imagine how anything could be "happier" when clipped. probly says that to make owners feel better about doing it.

My family has bred/raised dogs my entire life (APBTS). Male dogs wont usually start cocking their legs to pee until around 14-16 months give or take.
Some start earlier, some wont do it until they are about two.
3 months old is still just a baby bro. Nothing to worry about.

lol.. i retract my statement that my male dogs squat when they pee. what i mean is they just kinda stretch out their back lgs and piss when they dont lift their legs. I guess you're talking about literally squatting down like my females do when they piss which is perfectly normal for puppies.

Dogs lift the leg to pee to show dominance and to make its sent. as he gets older he wil start to lift his leg. Then he will pee all over your house.

Yeah thats normal, i got a two month old dashchund and a 9 month old dashchund, they both piss like girls. My breeder told me they start pissing normal at a certain age, around the time when they become very territorial and start pissing around the house. I cant wait. I heard it helps for them to be around other dogs so they can immitate when the time comes.

male dogs are just like male humans. and vice versa. Haven't yall sat down to just take a piss. its no different for dogs, "i'm too lazy to lift my leg, i'll just squat alittle and hope it doesn't run down my leg too much"

Ive got a female rot that lifts her leg...I tried to figure out if shes a lesbo or not. Made me suspicious when she started air humping our lab but when she started cutting her hair short and wearing flannel, then I knew.
