I think the plasmas look better then the lcds that was my deciding factor when i bought mine. People still have the fear of screen burn in on the plasmas but it doesnt happen anymore even with the video games it has an option that prevents it. So I say get the hd plasma you will like it.

Just got an e-mail from Costco. They are selling a Vizio 42" 1080p for $949.00 after $150 rebate. If you like to game, get a LCD, because of a faster response time, some Plasmas have a 'ghosting' affect while playing games. LCD's can be too bright for some. I have a 23" in the bedroom, and I wish I had a Plasma in there. The 42" in the Living room works great.

i like lcds better for gaming

I think it will just come down to personal preference in what you think looks better to you. The jury is still out on the LCD vs. Plasma case.

i've got a 50" plasma here panasonic. 720p or 1080i... (not much difference, if any) but i would definitely recommend a plasma. Burn in IS a bit of a concern for me as well... Just don't leave a movie on pause for too long, or at the DVD menu, as it will almost always burn in. I've read that the first 200 hrs. of viewing are basically a "break in" period, and one should be careful of burn in, however, after that time period you should have a little more room for error. ie; accidently leaving it on pause too long to make a snack... whatever...
as for gaming, i only have an xbox 360, and if any of you play live you know the little logo that pops up when a friend signs on, well, that seems to have left a little light mark. Only visible when the screen goes completely black. And most games today adhere to plasma tv's so all the things on the screen like health meter, and all that stuff, are transparent, so they don't burn in.
ONE more thing, if you DO let something accidently burn in. I've read that leaving your tv on a "snow" channel, well more or less "reset" the pixels, and lessen the burn in.
enjoy yur plasma!Last edited by TheArtist; 02-14-2008 at 02:16 PM.

I think the LCD's have a longer signal to picture delay...something aroudn .8ms compared to plasma's that are around .4 - .6ms
I'm thinking about selling my 42" LG HD/LCD tv and getting a similar size 1080i.

i got a pioneer plasma and a panasonic LCD....I keep the plasma in the theatre room and the LCD in the den where it is bright, it seems to be the only option of glare and light are present, is an LC, but given an optimal enviornment for both types, I think the LCD picture is better HD than the plasma, and we got a 10k$ plasma and a 1k $ LCD if that tells you anything. I prefer plasmas in the dark and LCD in lighter rooms.

i recently got a panasonic 42" plasma - i love it. it's full hd, and the highest consumer rated plasma (at least in canada). i chose plasma because i found on test lcd displays, you could sometimes see the pixelization type trail of the ball or puck. same with action movies, sometimes there will be visual trailing on slower-processor lcd's. don't game so the burn's not really a worry. i just love the picture on it.

they said a plasma will only last 5-6 years

I was in Cosco the other day. I always enjoy looking at the TV's. The Plasmas seem to have the best pictures. I've seen plasmas in resturants and some pizza joints.
When there left on for long periods of time everyday, the picture starts to take on a washed out appearance, but an LCD picture quality can last much longer.

newer plasmas (whithin the last couple years) will last you 20+ years use
You don't have to worry about burning in either LCD/Plasma with games either, recent ones won't
I had also mentioned earlier about signal to picture delay... LCD have around .8ms, plasma's are a bit faster with .4 - .6ms

Whatever you buy make sure it's 1080p!!!!! As far as LCD versus Plasma it's a personal choice. Demo them both, see which one you like better.

How come everyone else can't see that these new tvs are horrible? I go into Best Buy , Walmart, Target...wherever they sell tvs and look at all of them. These new LCD's and Plasma tv's don't have nothing on a good old CRT. Their images are blotchy and messed up....just horrible. Until I am convinced otherwise I am sticking with my outdated picture tube.

They look horrible because those stores do not have them setup properly. They're not feeding the TVs an HD signal. If you take standard definition TV from cable or over the air and blow it up to 50-60 inches it looks like hell. Shit in = shit out. If you want to see them properly go to a high end home theater store. High end stores usually have HD satellite and you can see what they really look like. You'll be blown away.
