hey gixxer I'm from Dallas. Lived here my whole life with small stints in other places. I love Dallas. Great frekkin city! Don't compare Houston with Dallas. Dallas people hate that! I personally refer to Houston as the armpit of america! If you have any questions hit me up!

Ya, those are ok. Too suburban for my tastes, though. But ok if you think you'd like summer boating on the lake. They're also close to Addison, where lots of nightlife spots are.
The nightlife spots in Addison (and in suburbia in general) tend to be franchise operations; not very imaginative, IMHO. The spots close to downtown Dallas and along Greenville Avenue tend to be more interesting.
Again, everything depends on what appeals to you, where you work, how much traffic you want to contend with, etc etc. You might look for a place with a short lease, and live light so you can spend a few months checking out the area, and then move someplace better.
Good luck . . .

tock had some good insight. I dated a girl who lived in those second apartments...not bad. I would prefer to be in or around uptown if concerned about teh nightlife. And i would prefer dallas over austin or houston anyday

Where in the hell did I get Virginia? Oh well!
If I were you, I would expect to pay $900 at the least for a nice apartment. You can find a nice pad for $900 and still save $600 from what you are paying now. You could live in a ****ing kick ass pad for $1500 in Dallas but why do that when you can save money and still live in style?Last edited by Panzerfaust; 02-27-2008 at 11:43 AM.

Im telling you, texas is pretty sucky. At first you mite like it, cuz its new and such. but when u start seeing more signs in spanish than english, yr tires start getting slashed, and car gets stolen multiple times.
Im sure these things happen everywhere, but trust me, here, its getting worse by the second
But, Austin is def yr best bet

I was originally from Long Island. Moved just outside of Austin a little over a year ago. Cost of living is MUCH MUCH cheaper here. You can live like a rock star on a typical NY salary. Austin has a great nightlife. The women are fantastic and don't pretend the're Paris Hilton. I miss the beach the most but the open road and huge sky of Texas kind of make up for it. There is great food to be found here just not pizza. Dallas is nice as well but its much like NYC some areas are nice others are dumps. If your into guns or the outdoors this place is heaven. If we could just get a decent beach here i wouldn't even contemplate moving. Open space is a short drive away from both cities. So if you plan on owning a large chunk of property some day might not be a bad move. Oh and the weather is 1000000 times better here if you enjoy the heat. I went back to NY around cChristmas and was completely miserable due to the cold weather up there. I dig the TX sun in a big way
Oh yea there's also a lot less wanna be guidos with blow out hair cuts down hereLast edited by RageControl; 02-28-2008 at 06:01 PM.

I know some one who moved down here to houston from New Jersey, and I have familly from chicago that moved to houston and Dallas.
They like it here. They all say there's so much space and every things bigger here, apartments, freeways, houses, malls, parking lots etc. Plus it's easier to find a job.
Everything negative you guys said is true, but there's also alot of Positive too. And yea Houston gets hot real hot, you can never get used to it either. During the summer between noon and 4pm you don't see anyone outside.
