Buying an Elliptical
I am looking to buy an Elliptical for my house. I have been dieting good and training hard for 4 weeks now but have been absolutely lazy on cardio.
I found this on craigslist for $500. It is an Ironman EV0-1
It has a 19" stride so it will work well for me. Anyone have any other sites for used Ellipticals. I am not looking for a $2,000 model here..just something solid.***No source checks!!!***

When I was looking for a cheaper elliptical I just started reading consumer reviews online and then decided that if I wasn't going to buy one over 1500 that it wasn't exactly worth it unless it came with a huge warranty. Here I am a year or two later and I still havent bought one. Ask gixxr if he's still around...?

my girlfriend and i bought a tunturi c60 which is at the top end of the home market, it's a great machine. i bought an elliptical because of the whole low impact thing. after hitting it hard for a couple of months, losing 5-10kg, 250km later my knee has totally blown out. this was a shock to me coz i thought i could hit it as hard as i like and get no injuries ever. i don't know exactly what has happened, i'm getting it checked out soon, i suspect i have torn the meniscus, but i'm certainly looking at machines that restrict you to a repetitive movement in a different light. also i think if you don't get a descent one you may be dissapointed.

murilo, I just bought the octane elliptical and did a ton of research on these.... I am not sure if you live in a big city in Texas, but here is what I suggest....
go to the local stores that sell them and give them a test... find which one feels the best and then go online and find a used one...there are a ton of online stores that sell refurbished and used ellipticals...
the biggest thing is feel... man i got on so many cheap feeling machines that would have been throwing my money away if I bought them. I am not sure how heavy you are, but if you settle for a real cheap one it won't even be stable to hold you as you do the motions... Then again a lil something is better than nothing if funds only permit...
There is this one called Sole that got real good reviews on the web, but I never got to try it.... some of those review places have $$ interests in their reviews so I take them as a grain of salt... also, for every machine I looked at I found 10 people liked it and 10 people disliked it... can't believe anyone.
What I did find for sure is that Life Fitness, Precor, and Octane definitly had the best feel of all.... and there are a ton of online refurbished even gym models of these with warranties for sale pretty good priced...If I was to redue it I would probably do the Life Fitness...
One other thin to consider is where you place the elliptical... if it is on carpet or hardwood floors (plywood/second level, not wood on concrete floors), it might add to the wobble...
finally, i think it really dep ends on how much you will use it... cause a few extra hundred will be well worth if you are going to get after it...
I will see if I can dig up some of those old web addresses on it. I think i deleted them from my favorites after I bought mine.Last edited by rockinred; 04-01-2008 at 06:55 AM.

If I were going to use an eliptical, I would want it to be in my home. I tried it a few times at the gym and felt like a huge homo, its a chick machine.
