Toyota Tacoma question
For all those who have a Toyota Tacoma, is it true that one of those "nets" that go in replace of your tail gate save you mpg in gas?? I guess this question would actually apply to any truck...
Also, those bug shields that mount on the front of the hood of your vehicle....does that save on mpg??
I've heard different stories. Any input??
Thanks,
MS

neither one of those will save you gas money... they will actually make your gas milage worse... toyota has already done all the wind tunnel testing and they have designed that truck to be as fuel efficient and as drag efficient as possible, that include the tailgate thats on there now and the design of the front bumper and hood.... so leave it the way you got it, cause it will be more costly to put one of those "nets" which will increase drag... take my word for it...!!

i don't have a tacoma, i have a sierra... but the bugsheild doesn't improve gas mileage, it does deflect bugs though, haha.
as for the tailgate, mythbusters said the net improved gas mileage over a tonnau cover and no tailgate at all, but i have no personal experience with it.

the fuel saving effect is totally negligible

Yes its true a bed net or cover will make for less wind drag.
I get about 23mpg with my cover on and about 20 with it off.
Also you can inflate your tires to max psi run syn oil's and keep the ac off.
