"The online poll from the British science magazine didn't ask readers how they felt about professional athletes using drugs to enhance their physical performance. But when asked how they felt about professional thinkers using drugs to enhance their cognitive performance, nearly 80% said it should be allowed."

Fascinating article for just that paragraph. Makes you think, maybe there should be some more research done.

On one end, the concern for intelligence improvement is outside of the competitive arena. It may be a different story in situations involving a competitive component such as jepordy. MANDATORY DRUG TESTING CONGRESSIONAL HEARING: Alec Trebec to speak.

Additionally, improved intelligence usually serves a greater good as advances are made more often and to greater magnitudes. Essentially, an analogous example: Police officers and Military using steroids may be greater allowed by society (however, the one main concern is anger control). These personels are not competing, and a greater physical edge serves its purpose to a greater extent.

Negative eugenics is aimed at lowering fertility among the genetically disadvantaged. This includes abortions, sterilization, and other methods of family planning.

Both positive and negative eugenics can be coercive. Abortion by "fit" women was illegal in Nazi Germany and in the Soviet Union during Stalin's reign.
