Here is what I do not get. Skull Crushers is an advanced exercise. Someone who knew what they were doing would not start a newb off with skull crushers they would start with a straight bar press down or a rope press down something basic. If in fact he was a newb a majority of the persons gains in the first 12 weeks is going to be from the neuro-adaptations in the muscle not hypertrophy which of course will happen.

Glad to see you're getting so much bang for your buck (bang being muscle growth and buck being the "rope pushdowns")

This is only based on personal experience but I found that the tricep push down and rope pull down were pretty much the same in what they hit. Tricep growth was fairly slow for me on those excercises compared to bicep's which were alot of heavy compound work. A little while ago (before I jumped on gear as well) I started doing more close grip benches and it seemed to make my tri's burn far more and end up far more sore the next day AND within about a month there was a noticable jump in size. Also like someone said earlier the body doesn't define the knowledge, if your a hard gainer and read up every night on ways you can get yourself bigger and recover faster then it's probably safe to say that you know more than some dude who can gain weight very easy.

And yes personal trainers are stupid at least the unqualified ones. This one dude who weights about 80 kg and is about 6ft now hangs around the gym telling teen school kids how to train giving them pointless info. He even had the nerve to walk up to me one day and tell me not to go so heavy on my squats because "all I will do is hurt myself". Funny enough my legs are my fastest growing body part and are about 2x as big as his.

Yes, if you dis on the 3rd or 4th most popular tricep exercise, someone will disagree with you. Besides, Bruce Lee said it best when he said "no way is the way". We all know the only way to kill a whole muscle group is to work out every part of that muscle. Duh. We also all know that your body gets used to the same thing, and you will need to switch up at some point. Burning out with Rope Pulldowns after whatever tri workout you do couldnt hurt.

I just wanted the chance to call out the douche I went to highschool with, seeing how if you followed my post, he thought he was hot shit and I was a band dork, and he has the personality of the Chotchkies guy "get a room you too!". But he isnt the only one at my mini-mall, suburban middle class gym, who walks and talks like hot-shit at 130 lbs, and everything in their wardrobe says "trainer" on it. This guy goes to my pool in my complex too, and I am 3 times his size. He asks me shit like if I am "STILL PLAYING IN BAND?" while making trumpet fingerings in the air. (I am 28 ****ing years old). So I told him "apparently playing the french horn will make you twice YOUR size". Then we share a caddy laugh. BITCH. (oh, and if it helps to create a mental picutre, I was skinny, not fat.....wouldnt be hard for some people in highschool band to be bigger than 130 lbs, heh)

Not trying to offend someone who is 6-0 200lbs and spent time in the armed forces. Not the same thing.

I apologize for my kinda "hard" first response. But you have to remember that there are lots of ways to achieve progessive overload of a certain muscle. Weight isnt the only one. Sure doing ONLY rope pushdowns will get you nowhere in the end. But i belive rope pushdowns is best to get a good feeling for the triceps and practice peak contraction.
For me it is in fact my favorite triceps movment.

So there is basically no need to knock the PT for doing this exercise with his client as mind muscle connection is most important for builiding muscle which is best achieved with rope pushdowns IMO.

On the other hand you have a valid point in generally saying that most PTs suck. .. and such big time.

which is ironic cause you talk shit on P.T.'s yet you sound like you've also got a lot to learn by saying: "He had the noob doing tricep cable pulldowns with a ROPE i.e. an exercise one would perform leading up to a competition to bring out definition in the tricep, not BUILD IT!"
    Agreed.

    Massive self-ownage
