Compare the fat state map to the electoral college map and the thinnest states lean democratic. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

Now compare that chart of people who think voting for the best candidate has anything to do with voting on a "party". Now that shows why we are the least informed / educated voting population in the democratic world.
