Haha, no. It was a pretty funny situation. There was this guy who was harassing some girl, so the girl's friend asked me to go talk to that guy. I went to go "talk" to the guy, and whilst I was getting in his face, some RANDOM person came up to us and said to me "why are you messing with this guy?" I told him to mind his own business, then he got in my face and all of a sudden he started swinging. lol
So in the end I fought with some random guy, haha.

But i must add it is not that useful if its a big group of people fighting. That is were KM comes in to play.

Going to the ground in a "Real" fight is very dangerous. Krav in a real fight is very functional as long as you are cool with destroying some one

You know, I was thinking about the fight I had with that guy...he could easily have kneed me in the face when I went for the take-down. My face would've been destroyed. But I guess BJJ fighters have ways of dealing with that...right? Well, obviously they must, but I didn't know when I was fighting--I just went for the legs. Thank God he didn't use his legs.

Unless your a trained fighter it would be very hard for someone to be able to react to someone shooting in on them and then putting a knee right on the money. I got into a fight with a wrestler well before I was into BJJ, he shot in and the only thing I could think to do was let him smash my head into the ground. Thank god for biting, and eye pokes because that would have turnout out bad for me.

No that is my hero Jean Claude Van Damm....
I have yet to compete in a bjj or mma match. I have been doing it more as a hobby while going through graduate school. My goal is to compete in a few MMA bouts before all is said and done, hopefully within a year. It takes a lot of time that i do not have to train. I am certainly not going to go and compete unless I can give it 100% I am already training twice a day 4 days a week between wieghts, cardio and mma, and I am no were near ready.
I fought a lot between the ages of 12-17, mostly Kempo Karate, Judo and sometimes TKD tournaments. I stopped when my baseball coach told me that I could get hurt and not get a college scholarship. Ironically I got hurt more in baseball than i ever did in martial arts.

The only way to really put an emphasis on kitting yourself out for the street is to base your skill set on the things you will end up doing on the street in stereo. id suggest a more urbanized version of Krav maga.
Since i was a child i have practiced Kung fu, Kickboxing, Boxing MMA, BJJ Krav Maga (IFKM)..... and ill take Urban Krav Maga anyday.

I train CHA3 Kenpo and BJJ and both are practical depending on how the guys/girl attacks you.

Its baisically MMA for the street. Its closely associated in with Krav, but in reality its nothing of the sort. It has all the impractical or unreliable stuff taken out and alot of time is spent focusing on the direct and more usefull stuff.
There are a number of associated schools in the US ones i know of are, Dan Morgan in London Ontario Urban krav Maga, and Gershon (Ben) Karen in Boston (http://www.kravmagaboston.us/).
There are a few others doptted around the states but the two above guys i have trained with and they are pretty damn good, Gershon esspecially.
For those in or near Madison Wisconsin it may be worth checking this guy out, http://www.ukmwisconsin.com/
If any of you guys are near and are interested, feel free to look them up.Last edited by Odpierdol_sie!; 01-22-2009 at 10:35 AM.

Krav Maga originated in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s. The primary founder, Imi Lichtenfeld moved to the land of Israel when circumstances for Jews in Europe took a turn for the worse. From Israel, Krav Maga spread to the rest of the world.
Origin refers to the beginning, starting-point, cause, or ultimate source, from which a thing is derived.
Not meaning to be an smartass, gotta support a (at least after the posts by him i read so far) respectable dude like Buffedguy.Last edited by Saam_ee; 01-25-2009 at 06:01 PM.

Thanks man, I will check into it more.
That was my only deal with traditional KM was all the BS that I had to learn with it. It was a bit of a turn off for me. I stopped doing most of the traditional martial arts because of stuff like that. I even stopped BJJ because when is your opponent every going to wear a heavy ass gui to hold onto and arm bar...LOL
I found a really good start up MMA school that did all kinds of none traditional martial arts, and quickly got pumped up again to train.
