It's just an uglier version of a moped, if that appeals to you, then you should be happy with it.

I had to look up pics to see what it was, looks like it could be fun for what it is. I doubt I trade my R1 in on one, but still could have fun on it.

Don't get me wrong I'm a jack ass and I'll soupe up a moped or a lawn tractor or pretty much anything, just wouldn't spend that much doing it.
I did my brother's moped last summer after he ran it out of oil and it needed a rebuid anyway.
49cc---->70cc kit...piston, cylinder, cylinder head.
new Carb, intake manifold, exaust
gained a tooth in the front sprocket, and dropped 2 in the rear for a higher gear ratio
I think it looks funny parked next to my buddy's ZX-10R
It tops out around 50 now and doesn't even downshift going up hills
he rides it to work everyday and loves it, but even 50mph gets boaring...once you have a moped and you put some speed in it, you'll realize you still want more.
total cost $550 + the moped we already had that needed to be fixed anyway

By law and regulation mopeds are limited on engine displacement, speed and/or power output. (The requirement they be fitted with bicycle-like pedals was dropped almost everywhere in the 1970s). Mopeds are typically restricted to 50kmh (30mph) from an engine displacement of 50 cc (ie 49 cc) though there are a few variations.
In other words if you drive one of those ridiculous creations you can get pulled over and ticketed.
Just get a real bike...my insurance is only like 90 bucks a year.

Wow that's really dumb. It's like a bicycle with a lawnmower engine?

get a ysr50. i had one when i weighed 135 and it could get up to 65 with a few minor modifications.

I like them. I thought about getting one of the 2 seaters, but I'll probably get a Suzuki Burgman instead.

this is the only 50cc I find mildly amusing
http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/aprilia_rs_50_2006.php
65mph out of the box
modifications can easily bring it to 90
6 speed manuel motorcycle style gearbox
but...like any 50cc I'm sure it gets old when you see someone with a girl on the back of their non moped bike.

It looks like poo. Scooters are shit and by trying to make one look good, it actually makes it even shitter. If someone has a scooter you think fair dos, people need to get around, but if they try to pimp it out it means they dont realise how shit it is, so not only do they end up riding around on a piece of shit, they also lose any respect and dignity they previously had. You cant polish a turd, and if you try you'll come up smelling of doodie.

hmmm, good post.
yeah, in europe like everyone rides them cause it's a great way to get around. Unless you live in a city in the US, not so much. But like nobody pimps them out over there cause they know it's just cheap effective, and fun (as long as it isn't raining) transport and not cool.
I'm sure nobody judges you in Europe for driving a stock scoot, but if you pimp it out people will think of you either as a total jokester, or a loser/tool if you really think it's cool.

If motorcycles scare you don't twist the throttle so far

If you just wanted to bolt parts on something, and you like the look they are going for with those scooters...
Don't worry motorcycles allow you to bring douchebaggery to a whole other level should you so desire.
the first one I think isn't too bad if you like the extreme bling look (just isn't for me), other two...the owner must have been dropped at birth.
