How long does it take to find another job has a compter techicien
I have been fortunate to work at 10 minutes from my house for 6 years, last week the company reorganized the IT departement and my job was cut out.
I was the senior technicien there with 12 years of experience and it made sense because my salary was a bit higher then the 2 other guys i worked with.
I have a lot of experience in hardware, software installation, ghost image building, and some network knowlege, account creation and more on the active directory.
This layoff came has a chock to me, its been 2 weeks now and i am so depressed, i joined the local job search group, 30 hours per week they rebuild my cv, give me a lot of tricks to find jobs and more but the depression is still there.
I have been to an interview and i really didnt like the job nor the place and most people tell me not to feel guilty for turning down a job offer that you will be miserable. The job was for support on the phone but you needed to tell the user what to do, no one of connecting to him, it would be great if i stayed there for the rest of my working years but with the job market has it is i could not take that chance.
I am sending cv like crazy, making new contacts and more but i guess i am so impatient and really want to work.
I have been layoff for 2 weeks now. I dont know if its normal to feel like this.
I really dont know where to look and send cv everywhere, some of them are really far from where i live too at about 2 hours drive.

If it were only that simple......
yannick35, i really hate to be the one that says this, but if you don't get alittle more wide range on your skill set, or at least get a few certs down, there are too many entry level IT guys on the market right now, it will be hard finding a job.
with major certs and degree fields making PC repair and server knowledge a part of every day normal life. PC techs and normal IT guys have to know more in order to set themselves apart.

I do have some knowledge in network, i set up my own network at home with Windows 2003 server dhcp and DNS on the same server, i also have 2 workstations that i put inside my domain and i do a lot of self learning too.
I know the active directory so i can create accounts in there and put security, also if there is an exchange server i can also add the e-mail address.
I am looking into group policies right now and security a bit more, i ordered from amazon.ca windows 2008 server bible which is full packed 1001 pages of everything.
I am not just laying there doing nothing rest assure, and the last interview they asked me a lot of network questions, difference between a switch and a router, what are multicasting, broadcast and unicast, what is an active directory and all other sorts of things
I got the MSCE cd at home and i watched them many times, i called in to get more formation but the sad thing is that all the classes right now are booked, and i cant wait to get more certifications, i must find a job.
I have 12 years of experience in the field so that counts for something and for sure the money might be in networking. But you still need the regular tech guy too, when a computer crashes and you need to retreive data, or set up emails, network printers and all other software or hardware issues the network admin is not the guy that is going to do this.
I also had this fear about not having enough but i spoke to an old friend of mine who is in HR and he told me that tech guys are always good to have around.
How can i got for a MSCE certification at some point?

Im sorry to hear about that. Its real hard out here. I was hiring people for data entry positions and I had people who used to make 60-70k looking for work and were willing to take $10-12 and hour. A couple of interviews I had, the person had more experience and degrees than me and my boss. Times are deff hard Bro.
Keep your head up and keep looking.

I was refering to the ability to self teach yourself professional level computer security.. computer security is the biggest paying job out right now. but it is also very indepth.. no the market is everywhere for people who understand computer security. a CISSP is not a walk in and get type of cert..
haha no i agree that its 90K

please don't take what i said as downing what you know or did.. And networking is not the only place the money is at. the myth about that is typically speaking its the place where the money can be made without a degree.
I have a long list of Certs, but Certs don't mean crap. but HR departments love to see them. with your knowledge i would go out and buy three of these four exam prep books (MCSA, NET+, Security +, A+) from barnes and nobles study for about a week go take at least three of those certs . and put your resume out there with those on it and you will have a job again right away.

I called my old college where i studied back in 1997 this morning and ask about a part time class or night class that could get me the knowlege i need to get a better job, its not all about getting a better job or the money for me, i really love computers, working in IT and learning new technologies. But that lack of knowlege drives me nuts.
I spoke to someone that says i might not have to do the whole course but some modules since i have the basic networking knowlege, he will contact me later on today and apparently the unemployment agency can pay for the course, so lets just cross fingers and hope.
I will buy the books that you told me to and look into them has well, right now i am reading the Windows 2008 server bible and its amazing and has everything in it.
