That could be fun as long as it's street legal. I don't really have any place to go off the road.

Supermoto's are basically strictly for the street. They're not dual sports and are actually not good in the dirt at all because the tires are literally straight off of street bikes (17"). Most of todays factory supermoto's are street legal unless you convert it yourself.

    Here's a little sample of supermoto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpHC8HQyKgE

The 600 sport bike is fine and it'll be fun for a little while, but nothing compares to a supermoto as far as fun factor. Evertime I got off my bike, I seriously couldn't stop grinning like a little kid.

My main concern is whether or not I would be able to learn on a bike with that size and power. Do you guys think 1000cc is too much for a beginner?
How tall are you and how much do you weigh? Reason why I ask is, starting out my boi bought a CBR 1100 as his first bike and did fine he's 6'4 240 lbs. Just some insight to handling the a lil' extra weight from a bigger bike.

I really don't understand how people think the 600cc sport bikes do not have enough power? I've been riding for 5 years (in the streets though, not on a track) and have owned 5 different bikes in that time. 2 were 2001 R6's, 2 were 04 and 05 CBR600RR and the last one was a 2004 R1. I would take the CBR600RR over the R1 any day. The 600cc bikes have more than enough power for me. The R1 had more torque, yeah, but the 600's were just so much funner to ride. I've got a buddy who's been riding for 10 years and he prefers 600cc bikes to the liter bikes as well. I would go with a 600, cheaper on insurance and funner to ride IMO

Read my post above yours; it's all relative. I've been riding 5 years and I prefer a 600.

I think the smart thing is start smaller and re assess down the line. You can always sell the bike and upgrade later on if you feel the need to. The bikes hold their value pretty well unless you bin it.

Oh God, all that drifting is a high slide waiting to happen, just a bad way to go around a corner in the real world. The way they are weighted and the upright posture combined with the suspension...good luck trying not to do stunts. Those beg you to wheelie them.

A of all dont get a 1000 as your first bike, B of all instead of posting this question on a STEROID forum, go to a local yamaha forum or streetbike forum in your area or state and post the question on their, and i know exactly what response you will get from 99.9% of the members, and thats DO NOT GET A 1000 FOR YOUR FIRST BIKE

ps im in the same situation you are Dnomac, im wanting a bike and im wanting it yesterday, friends tell me to get a 1000, but fk that, 600 for my first bike, and alot of people still argue that THAT is too much power for your first bike

Agreed. I ride a Harley, and that is fast to me. I rode my friend's 600 Ninja, and that has some major power. Once you get used to riding a 1000 I would imagine that it feels weak, but for a first time rider I say a 600 is much more than enough. Not to mention cheaper. Just my $.02

I'm certain a 600 would be more than enough power/speed for me. I'm looking hard at the R6's and GSXR. I think I would find a better deal on an R6. I'm looking at an 04' for around $4000.

Yeah, lots of people high side when learning to do that. It's definitely tricky, but real fun. And, no that's not a safe manuever on the street, although I've done it on the street many times. The torque on a supermoto alone makes it impossible not to wheelie, haha.

Lets everyone keep in mind a 98 R1 is gonna be a bitch compared to the New Limited R6. I am just talking about the 1,2,3 gears...

The sports bikes have changed so much in the years, multiple generation in the last 20 years....

So pay attention to the year of the bike compare them based on the powder from the crank thich is available for the modles on the net...
