Really nice pics, Clarky. If the wife and I ever hit the lottery, Britain, Scotland, Ireland, and Iceland are on my "must see" list. Hope they let me bring the dog, I can't stray too far from him.

Sure is great to be able to do that, isn't it? I feel so lucky every time we go out around the house.. We can just go right up the street to mountains and trails and nature. I know I'm going to be extremely sad in five years when our younger daughter goes to college and we move closer to the city. I'm dreading it actually... We're going to have to sell the horses as well. I imagine will come back often, it's only a little over an hour away from the city.

Will definitely do that my friend. I know we'll be back as well, we haven't stopped taking about it since we've gotten back. We went to the farm this morning as well and took a long morning drive after I hit the gym and the wife was contemplating the far NE (like Maine) vs. the PNW for the retirement spot. I'm sort of leaning toward the PNW. Was just too cool out there. All in a day you can hit rainforests, mountains, trails, lakes, beaches and so much else.

Retirement is a long way away but it's fun (and scary) to think about.

This one you can really see all the water around me. The road (looks like a river) towards the bottom that runs to the left (towards downtown) was about 3-4 feet under from the bayou overflowing.

Yes bud, friends are safe. Don't have any family here in Texas but friends are family! It was nuts, second time in 2 years that has happened. It rained about 12-14 inches in some spots within a short amount of time. The pics of the bayou I live by (of course, right!), the bayou is normally 30 feet below those trees.

    Amazing shots lately everyone.

I'm hoping to contribute some of my gardens and property when more begins to grow this spring.

    History[edit]
The name was chosen by Scottish Canals at the inception of The Helix project, in 2005.[5] The Kelpies name reflected the mythological transforming beasts possessing the strength and endurance of 10 horses; a quality that is analogous with the transformational change and endurance of Scotland's inland waterways. The Kelpies represent the lineage of the heavy horse of Scottish industry and economy, pulling the wagons, ploughs, barges and coalships that shaped the geographical layout of the Falkirk area.[6]

According to sculptor Andy Scott, "The original concept of mythical water horses was a valid starting point for the artistic development of the structures."[7] He also said that he “took that concept and moved with it towards a more equine and contemporary response, shifting from any mythological references towards a socio-historical monument intended to celebrate the horse’s role in industry and agriculture as well as the obvious association with the canals as tow horses”.[7] In 2008 Scott created three-metre-high miniature versions in his Glasgow studio. These were then scanned by lasers to help the steel fabricators create accurate full-scale components.[8]

According to Scott the end result would be "Water-borne, towering gateways into The Helix, the Forth and Clyde Canal and Scotland, translating the legacy of the area into proud equine guardians".[9]

During the first year following the opening, nearly 1 million people visited the sculptures. [10]

    Structure[edit]

Another view showing its hollow cladding and canal basin
Built of structural steel with a stainless steel cladding, The Kelpies are 30 metres high and weigh 300 tonnes each. Each Kelpie has 464 individual steel sheets on the exterior, of which only 2 required adjustment on site. Construction began in June 2013, and was complete by October 2013. However the process of fabricating the steel was several years in the making. SH Structures,[11] of Yorkshire, carried out this fabrication and also managed the erection of the sculptures on site.[12] The Kelpies are positioned either side of a specially constructed lock and basin, part of the redeveloped Kelpies Hub.
