I was a 134 6'0 17 year old depressed kid, thought I hit up the weights for the hell of it, everyone said I would never be big and that I was wasting my time.
Well in 4 months I was at 174 (happend over teh summer) so when everyone saw me at school after summer, they were shocked everyone thought I did steroids or something but I was so clueless at that time and poor all I just ate a shit ton and lifted.
It's been bodybuilding ever sense.

I am pretty sure most not if all of us did it because of self-esteem issues and image issues.
I am man enough to admit that, I have (and still do) self-esteem and image issues.

I was skinny and weak as a kid. I was pretty athletic but my low body weight and weakness made it hard for me to compete with other kids. Everyone in my family are manimals, I would always catch shit both at school and at home about how skinny I was. I always wanted to lift weights, I remember going with my dad to the gym at like 5 or 6 years old and him showing me how to do a lat pull down. He wasnt really into working out while I was growing up because he worked a lot. But the memory of lifting when I was younger always appealed to me. Finally at the age of 14 I started training, I vividly remember how fast my strength and coordination developed. I played roller hockey every saturday morning with a bunch of kids. One kid was always putting me on my ass with body checks. After about a month of training I remember him trying to check me like always, except this time I put him on his ass hard. I was completely hooked after that.
In highschool I started to grow some I went from 135lbs at 7% body fat at 14 to 185lbs at about 6% BF my senior year. Everyone thought by my senior year I was juicing. Back then I wouldnt have had the first clue about where to get steroids .
I always looked up to guys that where powerful and strong. I remember Arnold of course in the Conan movies, Or JCVD in Blood Sport and Lion Heart. I wanted to look like those guys. I didnt want to be a skinny bitch my entire life.“If you can't explain it to a second grader, you probably don't understand it yourself.” Albert Einstein

I was into lifting weights fromt he time I was 13 but I got off course and went through some hard family times and balooned upto 241lbs with alot of bf at 17 years old. I cut down to 185lbs with crazy cardio and dieting and looked and felt incredible. My life changed for ever with that change. I was so agile I cant even explain how it felt. I could dunk a ball effortlessly which was previously impossible for me. I have always had a love of it since and am now more devoted than ever. I only wish I could spend even more time doing what I love. Amazingly I have never had friends that were into working out.

I bought a bodybuilding magazine when I was 12 years old. And Arnold Schwarzenegger had a huge influence on me when I was young. I blame Arnold.

my step dad used to kick my ass so when i was 15 i decided to get strong so i could kick his ass one day. never got the chance though. but about every year we get really close and he starts to swell up and i swell up then he swells down. intimidation i guess. cause now we weigh about the same except for a 15% in BF difference. and ive been hooked ever since.

I was very skinny growing up. Sr. year of HS I was about 120 5'11". Come to think of it, I've been around 5'11" for as long as I can remember. Always felt frail and less masculine and of course had lowered self-esteem. I tried and failed at BBing probably about 3 legit times...my longest spurt being my first, which was 4 months in HS. Problem was I couldn't eat enough food to gain so no matter how much I lifted, nothing really happened.
Finally, at 25, a lot of other things settled in my life and I could really focus on it. Plus it was MUCH easier to gain weight. I have been at it well over 2 years and will not stop for a long time. Everything in my life has improved and NOT working out is now a chore. If it wasn't for overtraining, I'd be at the gym every free moment. Motivation keeps going up and up. Love it.
But yea, being a skinny turd was what got me into it.

I was always built well and bigger than everyone else, then around 11 I started playing football. I always wanted to be the biggest and hardest hitter on the field, been hitting the weights ever since.

I was 18 with a twenty piece for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in Texas. I was 5'8" 160 lbs and good looking white kid when I got to my new home for the next nine years. It was survival instinct but that was the begining of a beautiful romance between me and the barbell bug.

First, my dad. Second, h.s. football.
I was always athletic and my dad always put a ball of some sort in my brothers and mine hands and he had a weight bench. We started messing around on it when i was around 7-8. He still has a pic of me lifting some weight. I looked at it a couple years ago and there i was attempting to do a deadlift. haha...
Then h.s. football came around and it was a requirement to lift if you wanted to lift. So i started lifting on a regular basis with my friends and i loved it. Took some years off at 20 - 23, but been really serious in the last 13-14 years.
