Planet Gayness
OK, so I was going to find a gym close to my work so that I can work out before I went home and could miss all of the traffic. So I found the closest one (planet fitness) on the route home and dropped in to take a tour. They have a "no intimidation" rule???? If you drop a weight or grunt other people will feel uncomfortable, so they will flash a red light to warn you. Then if you do it again they will kick you out??? I want to join a gym not a union! On top of all of that bull, the dumbbells only go up to 60lbs. I have that in my garage.

Unfortunately I think that most Americans like those rules as bodybuilders are the minority segment of people that go to health clubs.

nah, I think most people who go there think it's pretty stupid...but for the price and proximity to my house...not to mention there aren't any better gyms around it gets the job done.
If any of you had to, you'd find a way to get by with planet shitness.
it gets pretty crowded though, so that can really suck
they sell a ton of memberships and most people don't ever show up except on their first day when the sign up.

The people who like those rules like them because it keeps them from looking like douchebags in the gym. When theres nothing but douchebags, you won't stand out. These are the guys that go to the gym for the sole purpose of impressing other people. It's easy to impress a girl (or a guy??) when there isn't someone deadlifting 500 lbs next to you.

I think most of the people like the rules cause they don't know what they're doing...not cause they're showing off. When there is someone lifting heavy around, they feel out of place becuase they don't even know what exercise the guy is doing or how to do it, or how much they could lift if they tried that exercise.

I'm suprized you guys get so angry though...you all started somewhere
I'm sure you can think back to when you were 16 and the gym was a confusing place...everyone seemed to be lifting more then you and you didn't want to look silly
it's not a great gym so if you have other options, you are better not going there
but everyone should have access to a gym where thats affordable and accessable...some exercise is better then none. You should be happy the fat people are trying.

I know a guy that got asked not to wear a tank top in his gym because his arm size was "intimidating to other members"! Naturally he told them to go fcuk themselves and then joined an other non-*****fied gym

Yeah...I remember when I started I could barely bench the 45 lb. bar. But I didn't go join a gym where they have rules so that I don't get offended by someone who is more capable than me in the gym. I worked out with a bunch of meatheads until I learned enough from them to go out on my own and do my thing.
The thing that pisses us off is that Planet Fitness has rules specifically designed to keep people like us out. It's like a black guy walking into the middle of a Klan rally. They don't welcome us, as to where most of us on this board I'm sure would be more than happy to help those who are new to working out if they came to our gyms.

i live in michigan on the border with canada, and a guy at my gym last year was telling me about some insanely upper class gym over in toronto, i guess u are only allowed to wear sports apparel, no tank tops or cut offs or anything like that. he said they dont want there to be intimidation at the gym so people dont get scared away.

I got one for you... I was at a chain gym which will go unnamed... I went to another one of their locations and was doing calves.. I had 500lbs on the smith machine and was on my 12th or so rep and I grunted.... the owner comes over when I racked the weight and I said "There will be none of that in this gym!... I know your kind... always throwing weight around with no respect you almost put me out of business when I owned (insert some privately owned gym here) in the early 80's, If I hear you being disruptive again I'll throw you out" I couldn't believe it.. I had no idea around the time I was born I was also putting this guy out of business by throwing his weights around
