Bed Bugs
So I turned off my computer and got all ready to go to sleep. Flick on the light switch - boom a big ass nasty bed bug on my pillow.
Anybody ever had to deal with these before? I am thinking I need to
Wash all clothes and sheets
Zipper cover mattresses
Zipper cover all pillows
Wash regularly a few times a week all covers for a while
Go through all furniture etc with a fine tooth comb
Set up sticky traps here and there especially under my door after I sanitize the room
Most of this is based on what I read online. I put the bed bug in a bottle so I couldn't pretend it didn't happen in the morning.

ya bro take all precautions you can... those things are nasty, and hard to gget rid of!! I would just hire an exterminator to come out and spray.

Never had to deal with bed bugs, but I've had to deal with fleas. You can get this stuff called Borax...spread it all over the carpets and let it sit for an hour or so. It suffocates anything living in the carpet. Vaccuum it up afterwards. Again..not sure if that would work for bed bugs, but it works for fleas!
EDIT: By the way...I can't make it to your slumber party this weekend!

bed bugs are not big ass bugs.. check out under your mattress and in the seams along the perimeter of your mattress and see if you see anything else...
Did it look like this?

Nope, not microscopic at all, yet very small. ^^ I work in residential real estate and I've had to deal with entire inter-city communities infested with these things. They're a real bi*ch to get rid of...

THATS THE BUG
Yes it is 100% a bed bug. Thing was pretty big as they go. You guys are right; they can be so tiny they are hard to see with the naked eye. This one was obviously full grown. I've been dragging ass on fixing the problem. I'll update in this thread once i get things resolved. In addition to the stuff I typed earlier, i want to take a vacuum with attachment and do the whole bed, frame, corners and walls of the room, everything. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Do you live in an apt building or had guests over recently? Also, do you travel a lot? I do and ALWAYS check the mattresses before I even bring the bags in the room..
get rid of them as fast as you can.
Here you go bro.. http://doyourownpestcontrol.com/bed-bugs.htm
Hope that helps.. get pest control if you want but it can get extremely expensive as they need to come back several times to do to follow up visits.

I'm on the fence about what to do. I've only lived here a few months and my landlord lives in the house with me. We're friends but in a nutshell I believe he will believe I brought them with me (very possible) and that I should cover extermination. I think I'm going to keep it quiet and do what I can in my room for now.

Hopefully it doesn't spread.. there are things you can put under the bed stands that will keep them trapped if they try to escape but there are other ways of them getting off of the bed. Also, whatever you brought them in with (if you brought them in that is).. maybe a suitcase.. they may already be in other areas of the house. Empty drawers, take all your clothes to the dry cleaner, take pics off your walls and wipe them down (there could be eggs that you can't see).. Good luck bro - let me know how it goes.

Just wash everything in HOT water. Spray some raid or lice killer on your Mattress and let it air out then vacuum it. Get some powder for your carpet that kills bugs and vacuum it up after letting it set for a while.
Buy a mattress cover for your bed, they are cheap and water proof so if you girl is a squinter or you spill something on your bed you dont get a big nasty stain on your $$$$ mattress.
Wash your sheets at least once a week. Use HOT water if possible. If they are white use a little bleach.

I watched a special on bed bugs the other night. They are making a big come back in the US. They were talking about how hard they are to kill because unless they are sprayed directly most pesticides won't kill them. One pest control company they interviewed has a way to rid them and other bugs from you house in about 1/2 day according to the special. What they do is set up these very high flow heating units in your house, they put foil insulating sheets over windows and doors, and turn on the heat. They get the temp in your house over 130 degrees for over 2 hours killing everything in it.
Seemed like a good idea to me and they said it work every time.
