OK you got plenty of advise and plenty of schooling but I agree 100%, it's rude to text while you are visiting or talking to someone. I dont even bring my phone into the gym. Now at work I have not problem because if my productivity is off it's only ME who pays. I tell my daughter to OFF the phone when we eat or something is going on and she knows if she doesnt I break it. Simple as that.
I have leaned over to kids in movies and told them if they open their phone ONE more time it will be in 2 pieces next time. If you are in a social gathering, date, dinner or sex they phone is off limits. I can muti task with the best of them due to ADD but rude is rude.

see, to me, that is sooo far over the top! (flash forward to bazaar-o world) If I was with a woman (not my woman, she don't text too often), but if I was with a woman and she was texting while we were in bed, I'd flip out:
1) What ever service I was providing, that would be it for the night
2) That is just fukken rude, dude! Unless, her being with me means about the same as driving to the grocery store for some milk
3) Or has making love become so casual with the younger generation htat it doesn't mean anything? When I'm with a woman, I'm with her, mind, body & soul. Has that really become old fashioned?
4) or are the women (partners.... sorry DSM) you are with meaningless sex recepticles? (Or are these women "on duty"?)
Quck DSM.... grab my wheel chair... gramps wants to go!!

TimesRoman, I know exactly what you mean and it drives me insane.
I always have my phone on silent, so the only way I know if someone has tried to text or call is if I personally check my phone. Too often im talking with a friend, watching a movie with someone, and their phone goes and literally, the entire world has to stop for this BS text or call. My housemate does this if we're watching a movie and it pisses me off cause the movie has to be paused for 10 minutes or so.
I wouldn't say it's bad manners as such, more an absence of manners or ignorance, if you catch my drift? Can you imagine if you were at a funeral and someone interupted a eulogy with "tapping on their phone" or having a conversation.
Women are hands down the WORST OFFENDERS for this kind of stuff, but I know a few mates that are simply obsessed with their phone.

it took me over three years to shake a southern drawl from living in georgia for two years. Even today, when I'm drinking and partying, the ol' twang sometimes comes back.
Have you ever been to a brew pub? I guess they also call them micro breweries, but I was brewing beer over 20 years ago when the first ones were called brew pubs.... (think buffalo bill's in hayward)
when I lived in europe, there was a group of us that got in the habit of saying "mate". In Cali, people say... "you guys"... in the south it's "ya'll", and in places in europe it's "mate".
I'm like a road map I guess.... every place i've ever been, a little piece has rubbed off and stayed with me.
It's funny, now that I recall. When I lived in Europe, I even picked up a Scottish accent, but no one in the group was scottish, even though half of us had the accent.

It is super fvcking rude. I was on a first date with some chick not too long ago and when we were out to dinner, she was texting her gf the entire time. I wanted to rip the fvckin phone out of her hand and stomp on it.

haha yea if a girl is texting a bunch and you arent its normally not a good sign. Unless she apologizes and says she was talking to a friend about "_____" and then she stops and the rest of the night goes really well
