How many of you guys wake up to eat at 2/3am??
I do, but let me clarify. I have a RTD shake that has 700 calories, 123g of carbs and 50g protein. Im a bad sleeper anyways, so I always wake up. When i do, I just roll over and grab it off my night stand and gulp down about half and go back to bed. So usually around 3am im taking in 300-350 cals, 55g-ish carbs and 25g-ish of protein. Was just curious. I havent always been doing this, I just started a month ago and I can honestly tell a difference. I just feel a bit thicker in the morning as apposed to starving myself for 8 hours with nothing in my belly.

Would i wake myself up to eat at night ? No. I believe sleep is more important. If your already up i can't see any harm in it but i would try to find out why your walking up.

I tried it for a little bit. I felt like I didn't sleep aswell after drinking the shake. That and I had to set an alarm to get up. Like dsm said tho if your already up then why not.

I agree with dsm and stack, sleep is way more important then eating through the night. And when i tried, the digestion process made me a bit uncomfortable. My fix was drinking large qty of casein about 30 min before bed that way the discomfort of the fullness wears off right before a lay down.
Also, d7m has a nice approach if your not bothered by the digestion.
I personally have always felt the meal in the night is a lil far fetched. Your body goes into a completely different mode when asleep that preserves. Slow metabolism kicks in, decreased movement/heart rate...why the need for the extra cals? <---IMO.

I wake up 4 or 5 times every night
I eat about 2 of those times.
I actually enjoy getting up and raiding the fridge for some greek yogurt or chocolate milk at 230am.

def prefer the sleep, eating during the night is just a tad paranoid about atrophy

I am usually up still at 2 or 3, which leaves me to graze for most of the night until I get sleepy. Which is why I am a fatty...LOL

I don't agree with planning to get up to eat. IMO sleep is much more important. Deep sleep is when you really heal/grow, so not only are you waking up, getting up, drinking the shake, etc. but then you have to get through the early stages of sleep again to reach that place. No need to leave there in the first place.
If you happen to wake up, absolutely, go for it. Don't forget to count it towards your daily caloric intake though - whether that be the day before or the day ahead. That's the tough part about doing it unplanned. =)

I work 3rd shift and I am very protective of my sleep. I wouldn't wake up to eat anything.
