Any 'Lost' fans here? (tv show)
Yea, I know the show ended already, but I still love it and thought it was downright brilliant. I was frustrated throughout the seasons with all of the new mysteries being thrown at us without old ones being solved, however I loved how the show really created a culture. So many people and sites theorizing, so caught up in what this or that might mean, what the show was really about, etc.
I didn't know what to think about the ending the first time I saw it, but after watching a 2nd time, I came to peace with it. Such a great show, there will never be another like it!

Never saw it but heard it was good.

I watched it the first season, then my work schedule changed and I lost touch with it. Added it to my Netflix que but it eventually got buried by other stuff coming out. Thought Sawyer's character was brilliant.

I didn't watch it when it first came out at all. I saw all the promo's and knew it was the kind of show i'd like, but for some reason I never got around to watching it. Even after hearing all the hype and theories, I didn't bother. Then, during the 3rd season (I think), my wife got season 1 through netflix. That was it man, after watching that amazing 2 part pilot, I was hooked. I think we caught up to the current season in a matter of a week. We spent an entire weekend watching back to back episodes. I of course got spoiled by the DVD's and couldn't stand watching them live, but couldn't wait either!
I think it would still be worth it for you to get them. Season's 1 and 2 were the best IMO as it did tend to get convoluted season 3 and beyond, but still worth watching!

I only watched one episode thinking it might be a story about my life.

I saw first 3 episodes, when I found out they were signed up for 5 seasons I stopped watching. What happenend in the end? Was it all a big joke?

lol you are a top bloke i like your posts you are a very modern man one would probably describe you as a metrosexual...

first seasons hands down was the best, started to get to hard to understand later on.

Sorry man, i'm still missing your point. I'm not sure how me being a 'modern man' (as opposed to what, a fvcking caveman?) equates to me wearing pink shirts and underwear. And "one" would describe me as metrosexual, or you would? Man, you are so far off the mark you have no idea. I can't even put much credibility into your posts now that I see how warped your perception is. I would LOVE to hear some examples of what makes you feel i'm metrosexual. Are you basing this on a TV show I watched (which appealed to millions of people all over the world by the way)? If not, please enlighten me. Is it because i'm articulate and know how to express myself?
Metrosexual, definition: Metrosexual is a neologism derived from metropolitan and heterosexual coined in 1994 describing a man (especially one living in a post-industrial, capitalist culture) who displays behavior stereotypically associated with homosexual men (such as a strong concern for his appearance), although he is not homosexual. Debate surrounds the term's use as a theoretical signifier of sex deconstruction and its associations with consumerism.
Pretty offensive man, you sure you want to continue down this road with me?

Wow, you post about a TV show and you get responses from members envisioning what color underwear you have on. This a a sure indication you have reached "Icon" status. Either that or you posted in the Lounge.
I kinda had the same thing happen to me. The only thing I watch on TV is sports but...I remember a few years ago I watched an episode of 24 and got hooked. Within a month I was at Best Buy purchasing whole seasons of DVD's and watching them marathon style.

of all the shows that are drama based with a linear story line, only two that i know of came to a conclusion....
Lost (waaaay too long)
taken
shows that didn't make it:
4400
Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles
Doll House?
Sanctuary
(actually, there are many more that didn't make it to a conclusion)
my opinion? a show should not go more than 3 seasons if there is a promise of a conclusion.... but the greedy bastards see the cash rolling in and don't want it to end, so they keep going until it gets cancelled, with no regard for the story.

So, what is it all about then?
Can someone explain from start to finish please

GBrice, i'm the biggest fan of Lost, absolutely loved the show. Best thing i've ever watched on TV.
I actually miss the show. I miss the mystery, the character development, the hundreds of mini storylines. Going to be a long, long time before anything like Lost comes along again.
You have issues. Hope you enjoyed your time here.Last edited by Flagg; 03-01-2011 at 06:59 AM.

Lmao, i'm going with the latter... wouldn't want to feed into this kid's fantasies...
6 seasons. You saw the best seasons IMO. They were all good though, it never got bad or boring for me, just overly complicated. I thought that in seasons 1 and 2 also, until I saw 3, 4, 5, 6... lol
You should!
It's hard to dignify your post with any kind of response.... it would be like yelling at a 3 year old... I mean, look at that crap above!!! Where'd you go to school, Mumbai?
In your last post I was a good 'bloke' and you enjoy my posts... now my posts are useless. What happened? Your online forum hero called you out and all you can respond with are incoherent ramblings? At least try and make yourself look respectable. Actually, don't. I'm enjoying watching you sink yourself... just surprised you made it past 1000 posts. Trolls like you usually don't make it up to 100...
Here's what we've learned about you so far:
You have the education of a 3rd graded
You are obsessed with me
You are obsessed with my anus
You are obsessed with the article of clothing covering my anus
Your 'thoughts' are of me with a dildo in my anus (your words, not mine!)
If you're angry with yourself for having homosexual tendencies, please don't deflect on your hero, me. Maybe you should PM DSM or Shol'va, i'm sure those guys would be happy to help you out.... with you being so accepting of the gay community and all.
Bottom line is this: you don't have the wit, intelligence or grammar for that matter to mix it up with me. I suggest you go sink back into obscurity so the good people here forget about what a tool you are. Get back over to the AAS section and propose ridiculous cycles that nobody will advise you on. And why not put an avy up of yourself? You worried all the boys will make fun of your fat little t!tties? Don't worry, i'll mail you one of my pink bras.
I hear ya, but honestly I would hardly consider Lost's storyline linear!
Marcus... we'd be here forever. I mean... forever. If you really want the gist of it, I can make the attempt.
Glad to hear it bro. What did you think of the ending?
I miss it too... it really was a great show. I've never seen a show with such great character development, where you really actually cared about these people, as insane as that sounds. Loved it! There are alot of clips on YT with people discussing the ending, etc. That's what got me started on this thread!

I'm all ears gbrice?
If you make it sound interesting I will buy the whole lot

I can agree with gbrice in that being called a mextrosexual is sort of a insult to most. I think gbrice has been here long enough to where we all know the last thing he is would be is a metrosexual. You guys tell me the last metrosexual you know what pee'ed sitting down ? oh wait.... damn sorry gbrice.

I'd like to remind you that we have a no flame policy,
If you don't agree with someone's opinion just state why and give your opinion, there is no need to flame or insult a very valued member of AR, this kind of behaviour will make your time here short.
I hope an apology comes forward without further insults or flaming.

LMAO, BASTARD!!!
Fine D, if you're gonna blow my cover (and my cover wouldn't be the only thing today, eh?), just tell them all the truth. You are my RL gay lover, that recording is NOT of you and Hoggage, but rather it's you and I, and Hog was nice enough to take up for me.
But damn, the peeing thing... how do I even get around that one? People who think gbrice is Metrosexual - 1, Gbrice - 0

Ok Marcus, but remember you asked for it! =)
*********DISCLAIMER - as much as I will try to keep it simple, it may get lengthy***************
The very stripped down version of the story is this: A plane crashes on a seemingly deserted island. Most of the people survive, and soon realize this is no ordinary island. A man who was in a wheelchair realizes he can walk for instance. They come across strange things, like a polar bear - kind of strange on a tropical island. Many many other things that make this place really mysterious. The first season dealt mostly with this mysterious island and a ton of character development.
In the 2nd season, they find a 'hatch' in the ground which turns out to be a scientific research station. Turns out there are many of these all over the island, and back in the 70's there was a research group there supposedly studying and experimenting with the unique properties of the island, specifically electro-magnetism. I found this season really interesting, and it started a whole theory on time travel.
I'm not going to keep breaking it down season by season, because honestly season 3 and beyond gets REALLY complicated IMO. Also, i'm realizing that i'm not doing the show any justice with my gimpy description above. Some of the central themes the show deals with:
Faith vs. Science - One man 'knows' they are there for a reason, they have a purpose in being there. Another man feels there are perfectly logical explanations for everything that is happening to them
Freewill vs. fate - with the whole 'time travel' theory, can going back in time and doing something different have any bearing on the future which has actually already happened?
Good vs. Evil - to me, the show was very religious but not any specific religion. I thought they did it in a very cool way too, in the series finale they had a scene in a church with stained glass which would make you think it's a Christian/Catholic reference, but if you look at the symbols on the stained glass they were of many different religions. The show was great at throwing in the subtle hints and clues all over the place. I guarantee everytime you rewatch an episode, you'll see something you didn't notice the first time.
In the end, the show was very much about these people and their lives. It was brilliantly done and you really really did feel like you knew and cared about these people... it's crazy! It really is the best show i've ever watched.
Flagg, i'm probably butchering the sh!t outta this, help me out!

Well the first two seasons are the best in my opinion, and thats because there is so much mystery. Season 1 cliffhanger was just phenomenal and it was a LONG YEAR waiting for Season 2 to start!
GBRice is right, a plane crashes on route from Australia to LA somewhere over the pacific ocean and a ton of survivors land on this island. It is no ordinary island.
There are many dualistic themes in the series as GBrice has pointed out, like Faith against Science, Good vs Evil and Freewill vs Destiny. The show is really, really rich in characters and character developments. You have a Doctor, a Conman, a Fugitive, ex Military, a cripple who can now walk and many more characters. Most of them naturally want to get off the island, but when they find out all is not what it seems, some of them actually want to remain. You'll find as well that as varied as the characters are, they all have similiar themes in their previous life before they came to the Island.
If you like things that make you think, then you will enjoy this show. There are MANY mysteries in the series to the point that not all of them are answered in th eend, but that's not the point of the show. The point of the show isn't a Q&A session, its a show about characters developing in a purely mysterious place and that is the alure of Lost. The mystery. If everything is answered, it loses its magic. A lot of things are answered and I was satisfied. To not give too much away, the one thing that wasn't really explained fully that I would have liked some clarity on was "The Cabin", in regards to Locke finding it and then Hurley finding it later. But you'll come across that in Season 3. Both episodes are amongst my favourite in the show.
As for the ending, I didnt understand it initially, then I watched it again and fully understood it. Really good ending and amazing twist.
Everyone has their own favourite characters in the show, mine were Sayid, Locke and amazingly, in the last two series Jack really grew on me. But enough! No more spoilers from meLast edited by Flagg; 03-01-2011 at 09:56 AM.

Loved "Lost". I loved it less each season, but still really enjoyed it at the end. I don't watch much network TV, but it came highly recommended and my wife and I watched the first two seasons on DVD, several episodes a night, to catch up for the beginning of season three.
I am glad it is over, but I wish there was something similar to take it's place. The only other shows I watch are Dexter and Big Love. Dexter is spinning out of control like Lost did, and Big Love is over with this season. Oh well, more time to spend at the gym.

Great points! See, I knew I was leaving important stuff out. I too was one of those people who was getting pissed when they wouldn't answer questions, leave things unresolved, etc. but towards the end of the last season, I 'got it'. The show was always about letting viewers use their own interpretations. If you want to watch a show that spoon feeds you all of the answers, there are a million others out there. Lost was not that show. Lost REALLY made you think. It fvcked with your head. What other show had so many websites dedicated to it, tons of forums with people arguing theories back and forth, all over YT, etc. Exactly right - if they had answered every question, the show would have lost the very property that made it 'magical' in the first place.
AWESOME ending now that I understand it (I think!!). In true lost fashion, the ending can be interpreted in a few different ways.
Hmm, characters. I always liked Sawyer and Sayid. Wasn't a huge Jack fan but like you, he grew on me particularly in the last season. Kate of course, because she was hot. So was Claire, until she wigged out! I was actually a huge Ben Linus fan, I thought that dude (forgot the actors name) played that part BRILLIANTLY!
Best episode for me, hands down (except for the 2 part pilot which IMO will blow anybody away, never been a greater pilot for any show) was the one that showed us Jacob, the MIB and their mother, and how the Smoke Monster came to be. I thought it was so fvcking awesome when smokie came outta that cave....
Wow, Dexter is a show I JUST started watching - like Lost, i'm always late! So far, I LOVE it. Only mid-way through season 1, but I hear it gets alot better. Great plot, great show.

Like all my favorite shows, Dexter starts small. Over time everything gets bigger. Eventually it becomes so ridiculous that I have a hard time saying immersed. Dexter has hit that point, and Big Love has been there for quite a while. Lost was like that too, but I continued to enjoy it.
I liked the Lost ending because it wrapped it up within the context of the characters, not the outside world. Their experiences were so extraordinary, and the things they learned where so life-changing, there was no real way to show us what happened when they went back to society...the story would have been ridiculous. I have never seen a series finale that was satisfying, but I thought they did an pretty good job.
