800lb deadlift by 18yo kid weighing 238lbs...
I also put this up in the powerlifting section, but this kid is a beast. Check out the hookgrip he is using. That makes it even more impressive!

Just being able to move that much weight is very impressive

I guess you missed the change on the bar as well. It's 800 brotha! And its beyond decent. Very few guys pull 800 raw and with a double overhand hookgrip. It's almost unheard of from an 18 yr old. The record is Mark Henry's 9 0 3 at 18 but he weighed in the 330-340 range.
The kid is around 6' according to his training partners.

It is but not by an 18 yr old. Straps aren't allowed in powerlifting comps but allowed in some strongman comps. This kids a young powerlifter. For anyone who knows powerlifting, this is beyond impressive. Like I said the most impressive (aside from the fact that he is only 18 and 238lbs) is the double overhand hookgrip. I ask anyone on here not familiar with olympic lifting or the double hookgrip to put 225 on the bar and pull it using a hook grip. It hurts like hell!!!

Hey KP, is it stupid because you can't do it? I fail to understand why you would call it stupid. Deadlifting is part of the sport of powerlifting. I know you are an intelligent guy, so I assume you'd know that powerlifting is a 3 lift sport consisting of the deadlift, squat, and bench press, right?
-
I wouldnt call it stupid. Like BG said using that grip with that much weight is insane.

I don't know much about powerlifting but I have seen a serious powerlifter who would kinda jump down and grab the bar and come up all in one motion to increase her lift but had not seen anyone jump in with their feet like that and then lift. Most I see carefully position there feet and place on hand on the bar then the other then dip the hips and rock back. Do others use the technique of suddenly planting the feet or is this unique to this kid?
One thing for sure absolutely remarkable athlete.

i need to start dead lifting again.. I HATE DOING IT.. mainly because i have arthritis in my hands and even pull up's make my hand tighten up and hurt really bad.. but when it comes to back there is nothing better.

I love showing this vid to my oldest son. He is 17 and has gotten a big head as of late because of his weight room accomplishments and the fact that he's being highly recruited by most major colleges. He's a 475 deadlifter, so this video was very humbling to him. He has to learn that there is always someone bigger, faster, and stronger and that he can't rest on his laurels.

That is really amazing. Seems like the guy is taller than 6' though...but only makes the lift that much more impressive.

^Yeah his form wasn't as controlled as most body builders I've seen. I'm not sure if that's more normal for powerlifters or not?

In powerlifting there is no perfect form. Like I stated above, it all depends on peoples leverages. There are several ex powerlifters that don't have back problems later in life (the great Bill Kazmaier is one of them).
Like I stated above, he isn't a bodybuilder, he's a powerlifter. While there may be an ideal form for bodybuilders, there isn't one ideal for powerlifters. As a matter of fact he may be saving his body by deadlifting that way. Forcing yourself into unnatural positions with that amount of weight could do more harm than good. He's using the leverages that work well for him.

Very impressive

I sort of understand KP's point. I have maxed out on deads before just to see how much i could lift and boy did i pay for it the next day. So in my eyes and i am sure in KP's the pro's do not out weight the cons which is why he calls it "stupid." It reality its not stupid but its just not your style of working out.

Calling something 'stupid' simply because you don't or can't do it is disrespectful and uncalled for, IMO. There are many things that so-called bodybuilders do that we (powerlifters/strongmen/strength athletes) consider stupid or we don't agree with (like strict dieting even though you have no chance of ever competing or have a chance of being a successful bodybuilder) but we respect what you all do even though we won't or don't do it.
Powerlifters don't max out constantly, this kid is either at the end of his training cycle or near a contest/meet.

^^^no, because I don't think he's stupid! LOL!! I do believe, however, that he is clueless about powerlifting and strength sports. That doesn't make him stupid, but it does make him ignorant.
But I still got nuthin but love for you KP!

If you powerlifted throughout high school and knowledgeable about the sport then why would you say you've never really maxed out on the deadlift. And then criticize his deadlift form when it's more than common knowledge that many top powerlifters deadlift with this kids technique?

training and competing are 2 different things. While there was a very short period in my life I was concerned with my max lift, it wasent often that I would even attempt it. I never said what he did isnt amazing, I personally believe that his form will hurt him in the future. I am entitled to be wrong about this, not sure why others make such a huge deal about what I say/think. I havnt commented on what others think about it because they are entitled to what they think.

Because you called it stupid. Anyway, so you trained for powerlifting but never competed, is that what you are saying? Because that's not what you stated above. You stated that your powerlifted throughout high school and college. So forgive me if I assumed that you competed. I also leads one to believe that you would max out more frequently if you did powerlift considering the goal of powerlifting is to achieve personal bests at the end of each training cycle. So either you didn't train for powerlifting or you just incorporated the powerlifts into your training regime.
Either way your opinion is always welcomed, I just understand why you would call it stupid. That, IMO, minimizes this kid's accomplishment of doing what only 1 or 2 other teens have ever done.

dam thats unbelievably impressive
