This is my opinion... take a training course you wont regret it ( ive been riding for 20 years, and 6 years ago also took a riding course for cruisers, and 3 years ago for racing bikes...best thing i ever did)
Then buy a big cruiser 1300 and up....1600 or 1700 perfect...here is several reasons; you are 6"3 and 275 pounds, you are going to look to big/huge on a 800 or even 1000 + you are going to get used to it so fast, that you will want to trade it in for something big ( now you are probably saying, that you wont do that) but i know you will, because everyone that starts to ride gets that bug and wants more and better....every first time rider that buys a smaller bike , after 3 months wished they bought a bigger bike....just because you got a bigger bike does not mean you need to use all its power...keep in mine thats its a "cruiser"... you cruise, not race.
now i have a 2003 road star ( yamaha) customized, and a 2009 fat boy ( Harley), but for my hight and at 215 pounds i prefer the 2003 road star, because its a bigger bike (length)

Believe me...the things you learn might just save your life.

I've been riding for over 12 years; and instructing....there are rules I live by....and see broken by lots every year. Those are the ones that learn the hard way.
12 years....I instruct..and even my own mentor makes me ride every lunch hour watching me to improve my own still to this day!
That was the first thing i looked into when i made the decision to buy one. I like to do things right and from the looks of it they are really worth the little that they cost. I am most likely taking the course within the next two weeks

it's interesting. Kawi teaches people how not to crash. Fair enough. But there is a Highway Patrol training program for Motorcycle cops that teach you how to survive a crash. Which means you have actually crash your harley. A buddy of mine somehow got in (military) and he said it's pretty tough to intentionally crash your harley. he also said in order to do this, you really learn the limitations of the machine you ride. I would love to get into THIS program, but alas! I don't have an inside connection to get in.
