What is life to you?
What is life for you? Do you live it for yourself, do you live it for others? Do you ever wonder if anything you do makes a difference?
-
Life for me means time on this earth with friends, family and that special someone i choice to love until i die.
I don't live only for myself. I live for family and my partner.
The choices i make on a daily basis affect the people around me which in turn affects others and so on. (Butterfly effect)

I think that life is about recording the behavior of the human race so i can let my cloaked mother ship currently orbiting Earth know if they should invade or not.. my decision is due on the 21st of December 2012. So far it is a toss up.
But seriously, I believe in collective karma towards some ultimate purpose.. although life should be enjoyed, it SHOULD NOT be enjoyed at the expense of anyone else or the world we live in. I believe that this life is not the only one that i lived, or that i will live, as i believe in selective reincarnation. I think the purpose of life is to move forward the collective progress of our species, whether that be by contributing as a mechanic or a doctor or a scientist etc.. i think that we all play our part in this game, and as long as we make the world a better place for those around us, we are doing our part.

selective reincarnation?
how does that work, if you don't mind me asking?

I have a unique perspective because i've had 3 near death experiences........
As stupid as it sounds I learned the real meaning of life.( And no I cant tell you what it is because you wouldn't understand)
Just live your life like you are not guaranteed tomorrow.
Lol as cliche as it sounds if you can hold onto that thought everything else will fall into place.

Life is an anomoly to me. When I watch movies like Agora, Rawanda, and Attack on Darfur, I cant help but wonder how people can be so incredibly brutal, and how good people can sit by and do nothing. Our existence on this planet has been but a blip on the radar for time. I feel like there is no purpose to the randomness and brutality that I see on Earth. For anyone who has not seen 'Agora' I definitely recommend that you see it, I wont get into details, but it shows the brutality of the fight between Christianism and 'Paganism'(Worshiping Gods like Zeus, etc) during the 4th century AD in Alexandria (Empire of Rome). What brings it home for me, is the wide shots of the Earth moving through space while the screams of people being slaughtered in the streets by "Christian Warriors" is heard in the background. The Earth looks so serene when looked at from space, it looks beautiful, elegant, like no other planet that we know of. Yet, some of the most horrible things imagineable take place here.
My opinion. Life is cruel, sick, and perverted. I don't find any 'higher purpose' or any shit like that. Knowing that we can be something better, who would ever create a world where such things take place on such a regular basis. We have been killing people since the beginning of human history, having found ancient human skeletons with arrow wounds to their bones. It makes me sick, and the fact that we haven't learned from history, and continue to allow things like genocide to take place.
I have some very unique theories about life. I suppose I take a lot of time to think about these things, having a unique background in liberal arts, and the medical sciences, I try to reconcile the things I know about human life, politics, sociology, with biology, chemistry, and physics. We need the ability to step back from ourselves, and view our actions objectionably. I think what disturbs me most about 'life' is how much people lack open mindedness and tolerance. I think everyone wants their life to 'mean something,' yet in the cosmic scheme of things, our lives are meaningless and pointless. There are billions of stars, with twice as many planets orbiting those stars, just in our own galaxy, and there are BILLIONS of galaxies. Who cares about some insignificant life forms on an extremely small planet orbiting a relatively small star out in the middle of nowhere? In the grand scheme of things, we seem so irrelevant.

i believe that there is a heaven and such but if you wish to re-enter the world you can.. but what you can re-enter the world as depends on how well you lived your previous life. And where you end up depends on how well you lived your past life as well. If you were evil you will be instantly reborn into a life of pain and suffering. Basically once you die there is a heaven and all that and once that gets old you can go back to "earth" or where ever else in the universe as a "living being" again. I do not believe in eternal hell. this process repeats until you find enlightenment and are then given a position of importance in heaven whether it be a guardian angel or something similar..
This is basically a combination of separate ideas from Buddhism, Hinduism, & The Old Book (i.e. Christianity, Judaism & Muslim)

Life is funny..... The answer to this question could change depending on ones situation.
Life is great when things are going great and you have no major problems. Life could be about helping others as much as possible and always taking the high road.
Life sucks when it feels like the world is against you. You're in debt, you lost your job, someone died, or someone left you. Life could be about surviving one more day, putting food on your families table, or simply just to watch out for yourself.
I'm not really sure what life is to me. Sometimes I hate it and sometimes I love it..... but most of the time I guess I take it for granted? I just live each day and if I wake up in the morning..... it's already a good day LOL.

I really didnt dive into any outrageous theoretical physics, I simply pointed out observations made by the hubbe space telescope and some mathematical calculations. Everything in science is speculative, even the fact that when we drop a ball from our hands it accelerates towards the ground at 9.8ms^2. That's just an observation, but its one we've made so many times that we accept it as fact. Now, it does not mean that its a fact, because objects could behave differently in other parts of the universe, math tells us that it will behave the same in other parts, but nothing says that the opposite may not be true, because we have not observed it. It's kind of like, trying to predict where an electron is around the nucleus of an atom at any one period in time. It's impossible to observe, but we can make predictions based on their behavior. NOTHING in science is concrete, fact, gosspel, etc. We simply make observations so many times that we can say, more or less, that something is a law. But as we know, laws can always be broken. You bring up a valid point, but the question asked what do I THINK about life, so I gave MY OPINIONS based on things I believe to be true. You do not have to choose to believe them, but you can also choose to believe something completely different. It doesn't make it crap.

No matter your reality, there is an Absolute Truth about everything in relation to life. And this is evidenced throughout the world as we know it.. Before mankind had the means to make tangible observation of the physical world around him, many of the "laws" accepted today were already set in place; they were already in existence.
The purpose of life, in my opinion, the essence of life, I think, was meant to have a higher purpose from what it is today.
I treat everyone around me with love, respect, and dignity. From whatever material means I may have, I help not only my family but more importantly, those who are in need. I have accomplished a lot. Have a great "life", amazing woman, friends, career, loving and caring family.. Yet, there is a void that none of the stuff mentioned above can fully fill in.. Just the thought of many unfortunate people suffering around the world, the state of affairs of many governments/world powers, and the unrest felt worldwide as men don't know how to seek the answer to many of society's problems, leave a lot to be desired, and thus, I can't fully comprehend what life truly is or was meant to be.
Perhaps this goes beyond the scope of the OPs original question but our sense of "what life is", respectively, is greatly entwined with the experience of "what life is" to people around us locally, as well as globally.

i just find alot of it impossible and just based on theories, whats the point in guessing games? and just not space, take these CGI created stories that we see on discovery etc chronicling prehistoric creatures and their behaviour, what utter rubbish, impossible for anyone to know and just made for entertainment and impressionable fools to believe. and i didnt mean your points personally, i mean from the science world. you take things way too much to heart mate.
ricky gervais once summed stephen hawkins up nicely, 'pretentious' lolLast edited by dec11; 04-29-2011 at 09:52 PM.

Lol Nah not takin anything to heart man, just the opposite, I like to hear other opinions. I just think we're talking apples and observations. The fact that there are billions of galaxies, with billions of stars, and millions of planets orbiting those stars, is more or less an observable FACT. It is not a postulation, prediction, or theoretical perspective like with reanimating extinct creatures with CGI based on their bones. Nor is what I stated above ANYTHING relating to the work Steven Hawking does, such as work on black holes, a theory of everything, etc, and so on. Hawking is a theoretical physicist, he postulates on things he has never necessarily observed ever, but rather that his mathematical calculations tell him is in the universe working on the laws of physics.
There is a stark difference, when we observe the vastness of space with our various space telescopes, and we can actually SEE how many stars there are, how many galaxies there are, and also how far away these stars are based on their brightness.....millions of light years away. This is not just a theory, but a REAL observation. That was what I took issue with.
