    Deleted Facebook

I deleted Facebook a little over a week ago. It feels great. You guys should try it. Once you go without it for a bit, you realize how stupid it is, and that it's even stupider how much people put in/on Facebook.

I was actually thinking of today starting a thread on here asking parents what they think about FB and their kids.

I just have such a negative feel about the whole FB craze. Not sure why.

Re. my daughter, spending countless hours on there checking "statuses" , commenting on statuses and pics.
Just completely meaningless BS, a complete utterly waste of this precious and incredible short time we have to experience life on earth.

But how do I restrict my child (16) when everybody else is on there....and I mean EVERYBODY else....even my Mom (79).

There is also something about this Zuckerburg I dislike, from somewhere deep within....donīt know what it is...just donīt like him.
The sight of him just makes me angry. And my test is normal, 14 (8-35).

Yeah these are definitely new times. I'm relatively young (28) but I remember at the age of 16 I was running around in the streets with my friends. Sure we got into trouble, but we also learned how to deal with a myriad of situations. Kids now just sit on the computer and give "Likes" and comment on pictures all day long, there's no personal growth or social development going on, they are just static. What you end up with is people getting older and still acting like teenagers.

Time and time again the information that people choose to make very public is exploited in the worst way, and these people are always shocked when it happens. Even after many continue to do the same thing. I don't get it.

I use FB to communicate with a few hundred other "car guys". So my feed isn't filled with babies and stuff I don't care about. It is pictures and comments by people that I actually share an interest in.

What is facebook? Joking...but I've never been on it nor do I care. For those that use and like it that's cool, but from what I've heard you can only post a sentence or two and people mainly use it to tell everyone what they are doing or what they have done all day everyday. I mean seriously I just a phone. No wait maybe I'm confusing facebook with twitter. Either way I don't use them. they want TMI, even though my life is an open book. But still at least on here we are semi anonymous.

My mom just started using FB about six months ago (she is in 60s) and doesn't do much on it. My dad has passed and hated computers; he wouldn't be on FB even if he was alive. I am an only child, so I don't have any other family to deal with. My wife and I don't even interact on FB much. You know, because we have a real relationship and text and see each other every day.

Although, I did get in trouble once for posting pics of a racecar I was in hitting a concrete barrier at a high rate of speed along with the message "just hit a wall going around 80mph...everyone is fine" and NOT calling my wife. She called because she was mad "she had to find out about that on Facebook." I told her I didn't call because it wasn't a big deal, and I didn't have time to call because I got out of the car, walked back to the pits and jumped in another car for more laps.

    facebooks a joke..
I remember when it first came out.. back in 02-03... when you had to be in college n have a college e-mail address to register.. used to be used for getting laid n checking out girls at your school...
Now its all over the news n parents & little kids are all over it... Its simply a platform for people who need constant attention

I was thinking of deleting Facebook as im not on it much now, BUT just met a lot of old friends I haven't seen in 10 years (we're planning a stag night), and so, the obligatory Facebook Group has been made.

I think Facebook can be good for things like that, so you can all go online and see exactly what is happening in one place, rather than thousands of phonecalls or text messages taking place. That said, all the other stuff, banal status updates, people telling rubbish jokes....don't have time for that.

I got sucked into playing mafia wars is primarily why I ponied up a FB membership. As i was playing, it suddenly occurred to me that I was wasting unknown countless hours playing the game, and it wasn't ever really that much fun.

My buddy is like..... REALLY??? So he said fuk it and bought her a lap top. i came over one time, and there she was sitting on the couch, playing farmville on her new laptop, ignoring the family for most part. pretty fukked up if you ask me

It's all relevant to how you use it. It can be private and personal and some use it to connect to friends and family afar. Various reasons to use it...kind of like tv. It can be junky and wasteful, or it can be resourceful. Not much different than the social interaction we have on these boards. It's all in what you make of it. I will say it is a misconception to think that once your on facebook, you put your shit out there for the world to see. Just set it to private and you can 100% control what people see and have access to. Personally... I like it. I spend a similar amount of time on it as I do with my iron lifting bros on these sites. Just my different friends and also great to be in touch with my family in other states.

I dont use FB for anything personal except to say hello to a few people I know not local or to chat with friends off and on. No different than AOL, yahoo or any other such site. I spend more time on this site than FB by far. Hmmm that might be a bad thing? LOL Ive never been one to see it as catching up with old flames and such or RE connection. It's fun to catch up a little, see what someone has been up to etc but as for old flames? no way, they are all to old. LOL

It can be time consuming just like anything if you let it. That's another reason I never got into gaming. Porn has been the only thing that consumed a good portion of my life on the internet and even that I have cut it WAY down the last year. That's the problem when you start HRT and you are single. LOL

I dont think kids under 14 should have a profile at all. 16 and under should be kept to 1hr 3x a week or less. 18 and older, it's up to them as long as they DONT live under their parents roof and have their own place/job otherwise the same rules as 16.

If you lose countless hours to facebook the problem is not with the site, it's your life lol. I have had a FB for years and I have barely spent any time on it. My gf manages the whole thing. If it weren't for her then it would be completely inaccurate. People with real lives don't have time to post it on facebook.

I can't stand how facebook has taken over people's lives. But I don't blame facebook, I blame people for being such fools
