im on fireblades dot org and the main consensus seems that if you never had one on a bike, you'd never need one. i never thought of one before but then the bikes i had before were 600's

my first bike a f3 didnt have 1. got tank slap here and there. There was one bridge you had to just cruise over. If you accelerated you got slapping.
When i got my gixxer it was scary with out one.

some guys say alot of it comes from not relaxing on the bike and by holding one handlebar more rigidly than the other side

That's pretty much it.. I have had one and not had one.. I'm fine without it but I now have a gpr stabilizer and they come with a block u put under near the upper part of the tank and 2 big bolts screw into that block to hold it on place.. The sprint one in that picture looks just like the stock stabilizer that came on my 08 r1.. But I think you will get used to riding without it

My $0.02 a steering dampener is like a bullet proof vest they take away some mobility and might slow you die. A little, but when you need them you need them, very bike dependent though. I got a TL1000R brand new in 1998 and for some reason I decided to take of the dampener and it made turn in way quicker it was a completely different bike. Ann kind of ripple in the road that caused the front suspension to unload created violent head shake I ended up ditching g the factory stabilizer for an adjustable one I seems like a reasonable compromise. Now I have a 2010 1050 speedtriple with no stabilizer I gets no head shake and I is a rally short bike wheelie machine

My 04 and 05 ZX10 did not come with a steering damper. Kawi mounted them starting in 06. The same year I switch to Suzuki which came with a damper OEM.

I don't mind riding in the winter but I get so cold and think how bad it would hurt if you went down in the winter. You know how bad it hurts if someone thumps you in the ear when it's cold outside, now image going down on a bike in the winter. I'd rather be shot.

That stuff for pussies. JK! I need a good pair of winter gloves, the hands getting cold is the worse part. I actually use a snow mobile helment during the winter, it's a gmax with an antfog lens and keeps wind from coming under the helment.

Dec 11, here might be a tip. I pulled the damper off the bike last night, rode it. Didn't really see a difference, granted I didn't go up on the back wheel, but seemed to ride just fine. Try it! You seem like a tough mother fvcker anyway, I have a feeling you would break the concrete and not the other way around..cheers!

well, i gave her a good old thrash today and the verdict is, see ya later damper lol. the bike now has razor reactions and i can feel exactly what is going on by actually getting some feedback from the front wheel!

i now know how much a damper has killed the speed of turn in and flickablitiy, ive found a whole new dimension

(by the way if i go suddenly silent on here it'll be because she gave me a big head shake and spat me out infront of a lorry. i loved you all, twice in the face)

there was two large rubber bungs that the bolt ends went down into, i peeled them back today and discovered that they were actually nutted down afterall, two nuts below the tank lip. really strange that the bolts snapped though, and i cant be arsed getting the ends drilled out.

fvck it, live fast and die like devil!!
