Super bike riders
today my fooking steering damper came loose and i discovered that securing bolts had been welded to the tank lip edge rather than threaded in.
i do like the lighter more responsive feel of the steering but am worried that i'll encounter alot of 'head shaking' now.
any of you guys ride powerful bikes without one? and do you reckon its really necessary on a 929rr?

I never rode without one. My GSXR 1k had had one, I was always afraid of the head shaking.

oh i ride it like i stole it lol
mainly just worried about it whilst gunning her in 1st and 2nd. i guess i'll re-feel my way in on her again.
its amazing how much a damper takes away from the front wheel to steering feeling, the thing felt so agile in and out through the fvckin endless taxis up through Terenure this a'noon!!

sure its same as new front wheel, forks even tyre she feels different, takes a while to get used her and confidence back again, only thing is id be careful if you feel like doing a ghostrider impression on m50 until you get used it. . . . .

I have a 98 cbr900rr that doesn't have one, but with that said I havent ever rode anything with one. I hear it's hard to go back to not having one after you have had one.

On a 929? If you altered your riding geometry you might get some big shakes if not, you might get some but nothing you can't ride out as long as you dont chop the throttle or fight the head shake. I say ride the fvck outta her and don't fear the wobbles. But that's just me.

i meant get an adjustable. you said it felt so different with out it. So with an adjustable you can play the tension ti fund a setting you like

dont follow you mate, it is a Sprint adjustable with i think 12 settings, or am i not following something?
it must have been set pretty rigid by previous owner, in comparison with today it previously felt like it was on a rail, i could def fire it into corners alot faster but that prob isnt a good idea on the now very cold tarmac lolLast edited by dec11; 12-07-2011 at 08:44 PM.

this is same as mine here mate, you can just about see the two bolts im on about, they are below the barrel of the damper (black bolts)
im wondering how the fvck they're supposed to be threaded in, only thing i can come up with is drilling holes through the tank lip edge and that just seems messy to meLast edited by dec11; 12-07-2011 at 09:01 PM.

Unless you're racing Dec, on a 929 I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If I had the money to fix it I would but it's deffently not something that would park it till it was fixed. My 900 hardly ever gets head shakes. You gotta give it up to the japs for their engineering.
