Does anyone help people at the gym?
Like you see a small guy training wrong for a year and he's never grown or anyone just really doing things wrong, bad form/improper form, dangerous movement that kinda stuff. I know it cuts into your personal time but its hard to watch sometimes.

I usually keep to myself when I'm at the gym but ive given advice before, usually only if they're doing the workout wrong or in a way that can cause injury

Pulled a barbell off a kid one time when he got pinned using too much weight and no spotter. Either I was the only one that saw or the only one that cared to help.
But for the most part I keep to myself. The smaller kids just give me looks. Like when I'm doing curls and they step up and grab a heavier db than I'm using and do a 3-4 rep set of alternating db swings, check their abs in the mirror and walk off.Last edited by Dpyle; 08-21-2012 at 05:25 PM.

I completely keep to myself in the gym. I listen to my music and avoid eye contact. I would help if anyone asked, but I am usually stuck in my own little world.

I help, and give advice to everyone that's doing something wrong, even IF they don't ask... i do that, do to all the injuries i had in the gym, because i had no one to show me how to do it right, when i was young and stupid... i show them how to do it once, then IF they want to keep doing the same thing, i dont show them nothing again ( Even IF they ask)... i just dont want them to have the same injuries i have......

There's a couple of younger guys that work at the gym and lately they've been asking for some advice and i give em some pointers. If someone asks for a spot, i will. But i try to keep to myself.

not to hijack the thread, but today while leg pressing, i saw this one kid walking by and another kid asked him to spot him at the bench. definately a newb by the looks of him, but i'm guessing 180 lbs, maybe 5'10"? anyways, he throws a plate on each side, and the other kid helps him out. at first i thought they were just playing around. so i watch. this kid is really struggling with the one plate on each side. Evvidently these two were friends, but i just can't imagine someone his size struggling with such a little amount of weight?

Man I was thinking of this exact thread at the gym today as well! Mostly because I was watching this guy that comes in the gym all bad with his belly fat sucked up to chest level and his banger neck tattoos. I see him ALL the time lifting way more weight than he should but thats because he cheats on every movement. Today was squats. He is realisticly probably capable of clean sets with maybe 185 but he climb quickly up to 275 with the bench under his ass and not even going near that far down. His routine is the same with bench and biceps. Maybe half way down or using more back than bicep. I don't say shit cause he just looks at me like he just accomplished something and I should be approving.
I used to have a w/o partner that felt the need to coach everyone during our workout. FARK that! If you ask I will and have helped. If you are in danger I will step in. If you are wasting your time and $ in the gym...oh farkin well!

If someone is doing something that may hurt someone else then I will say something. If anyone asks for a spot or advice, I try to help them out aswell.

Same here, I will help if asked but dont offer. Headphones on, tunnel vision for me. I have been going to the same gym for atleast 6 years and dont talk to a single person. Head nod occasionally to the regulars, thats it. I did however get help yesterday, I was doing db military press and was strugging for my last rep, a dude came over and spotted it up for me. I appriciated it.

I used to but noboby really appreciates it. Younger kids tend to get it so if I see one that looks humble I'll help him out. Young women I help often with their squats and lunges, I cringe at the thought of PFS that could be prevented by correct form. I also live when people try to give me pointers and they're new to the gym or half my size and it makes no sense at all. Sometimes I'll overhear someone giving ridiculous advice and I'll chime in with correct anatomic terms and give a little bit of my background to justify the information being delivered.

If I know the guy I might. If not, I would ever say something.

I'll only say something if I see someone doing squats or deadlifts with improper form. Other than that I let people be.
