What does creatine actually do ?
Why do people think creatine gets you big ? If so then how does it work ? And I took it for a while then just stopped.Ive started taking it again but will I see a differance in a few weeks after taking it ?

Creatine helps shuttle the phosphate required to convert ADP into ATP. ATP is the energy source a muscle cell needs to do work. By supplementing Creatine, this conversion process is enhanced, and helps improve the body's ability to do work. Please note this only works on fast twitch muscle fiber, and for old marathoners like me, it does zilch.
When I first started taking creatine 20 years ago, within a few weeks, I noticed a strange phenomenon. My second set produced more work (reps at the same weight) than my first set. My third set produced almost the same work (reps) as my first set. Before creatine, each successive set after the first, there was a noticeable decline in the amount of work I was able to perform. I was recording my efforts, and I was simply amazed!

so, in reality, it does and is a helluva lot more than a simple cell volumizer!
typically, it is about 5 grams a day for full saturation after a couple of weeks. It does NOT matter when you take it. It does NOT matter if you accidently skip a day. If you take it regularly, fully saturated is fully saturated. Period!Last edited by Times Roman; 09-05-2012 at 06:38 PM.

I kept a log 20 years ago on my creatine use. I was taking nothing else but the creatine, so I can confidently attribute the delta to creatine use. The ability to work significantly increased. And with the increased ability to work, there comes an increased ability to gain.

creatine is also found in red meat. if you're eating 5 steaks a day already, drinking 1 more spoonful of powder will not make any difference.

this is not a true statement. even low temperature cooking of red meat partially destroys creatine. Unless you eat the red meat raw, additional supplementation of creatine is worthwhile.
I've never experienced joint soreness from using creatine. I've been using creatine for years, although, admittedly, there have been a couple of times I took a couple of years off.....

creatine monohydrate works, no doubt about it. Always a lot stronger and making serious progress while taking it, of course that tapers off and I am just that much stronger, if I stop taking it I decrease in strength and ability a bit, of course going back on I get back to where I was and further pretty quick. But all my best progress has been made with creatine.

^ when my kid was playing HS football, he came to me, knowing that i know "stuff", and asked what he could take to give him an edge on the field. he suspected some of the kids were taking "roids", and even though he was a big kid (lineman), some of the other kids seemed to be making progress faster than he was and he didn't understand how that could be. The did, in fact, work out in the same gym.
So I educated him on creatine. I also told him not to tell the other kids "our secret", as then they would probably tell their parents, who don't know anything about creatine, and assume the worst, then call the coach complaining. (you always have to calculate the dumb ass parent factor in what you do). it gave him the explosiveness he was looking for, and he was good.
