What's your definition of good gains?

And do we have an "index" thread that defines terms/acronyms not usually used outside similar boards.

I'm new and always lurking and learning but sometimes it's nice to see definitions all in one place.

The title and following question are completely different. Good gains are gains of LBM. Fat gains suck, unless you're anorexic and need to build any mass available. It is my belief that you should be able to gain 1lb of mass per week healthily with a solid bulking diet. With gear you can achieve more if you want, also based on diet.

As for acronyms, lay some out and we'll define them

    LBM is lean body mass

Well, I can give you the opposite of good gains. Just have a look at my 401k.

    Hahah.

'Good gains' is a very relative phrase. Good gains for a beginner? Intermediate? Advanced? They are all different. Great gains for an advanced lifter could be like 5 lbs. in an 8 week cycle, while a beginner would be something like 20 lbs. in an 8 week cycle. We are talking lean mass here, of course.

Apologies for mismatching topics. But in my mind they were the same. I thought gains were how much more you could lift as opposed to how much more muscle weight you put on.

    Or my last/first cycle.

Fat and water is garbage, LBM is what you would consider good solid gains. How much, is too tough to say. There are just too many variables. . . But, I would average a dozen pounds of LBM per cycle for the first few. This is what I have learned from all the stuff I read.

Dude if only we could put 1lbs of LBM on per week every week.....

I think good gains are anything that's forward progress. Extra rep in your set, a unit of weight heavier, a single pound of lean body mass extra. Especially since you have to take in to consideration that not everybody on this site is trying to gain mass. There are many different ways to train and many different goals we're trying to reach.

Oh yea, I add those 2.5lb plates to my heavy set just for the bit of ego boost from time to time.

    Shit, I wish. . . . But, wishing doesn't give you much.

I want to see how this first trim down goes. Gaining fat and water was just a waste, it doesn't aide in anything. Somehow I figured it would. It made me look huge for no reason and my feet hurt though. . . lol

Well, at least you know how to shed a ton of weight fast. Most people take a year to do what you did in 2 months.

Like I said in the another post, losing weight is easy < for the most part.

But, it should not be necessary on this scale if you play your shit right.

You start to get into problems the lower your Bf% gets. I have never been bellow 12%Bf and getting there took some serious dedication and work. I am barely starting to imagine bellow 10%.

Well said. I tend to think in one direction for some reason. It's like I have it in my head that anyone who is choosing to cycle, or even take interest in bb'ing is aiming to get huge. I should watch how and when I give my input lol. Post count obsession lately lol. In any case, my bad. Gains are anything you earn towards your goals

If i could gain ten pounds of lbm in 12 weeks, I'd consider that a job well done. But don't try to annualize it and say...

"Gee Roman, that's 40lbs of lbm a year. How the fuk you do that?"

first 12 weeks would bulk, next would cut. It would be a net of 10 between the two.

That would be a good question for sure. But it obviously would depend on where you are at. Maybe we can steer the thread back in that direction.

It might be unlikely but current bench is 345x5, by next year I want to be benching over 400, could I possibly get 405 for 1 rep on my first cycle? I think so if I eat enough and keep my programming up. I want to squat over 500 lbs as well after cycle, might be dreaming but we'll see. I would think if I achieved those goals, later cycles It would probably take me an extremely long time to get a 500 lb bench, or a 600 lb squat. Especially since at some point I need to lose more bodyfat, badly.

I'm curious what others have done while on cycle, and how they keep strength gains, I know this forum is more focused on looks, but there aren't any forums for powerlifters that also talk about AAS, unless they are private and I know nothing about them, and the few on here are very small.
