Very sad day.
My baby sisters husband died last night in a auto accident involving a deer. He was one of my closest friends as well. All the family is here and my baby sister has finally cried herself to sleep. They have a little girl together who is 16 months... I just had to get away from it so I am down stairs. It is so weird cause we had just talked about going hunting this weekend.

A friend of mine was travelling one direction and met an on coming car. The oncoming car struck the deer and tossed it up and into his windshield. He lived but is now on permanent diability and will never be 100% after the brain damage.
With us living in the midwest there are sooo many of the damn things. Kill all of em I say.
Sorry for the loss in your family my man. Stay strong for this sis bro.

Sorry for your and your families loss.
I have driven through a lot of country side and seen a LOT of deer standing along side the road or crossing but always managed to go around them.
I have hit 2 though within 100 yards of each other at different times in different cars. It has always been my belief to NOT hit the brake and to NOT swerve but to try to not hit it dead center either. I hit one on the passenger side and one on the drivers side and they just bounced over the car doing 50 mph with little damage.
Only time will fix things. I hope he had things in place to help take care of the family. I have been a believe of life insurance since I got married the 1st time and make sure I have enough to cover the unexpected.

Wow, weird that I just read this as I was on my way home from the gym earlier tonight and had to stop for four deer who were just standing in the middle of the road. It's that time of the year here in Missouri where the weather cools down and they start their rutting and roaming out from their usual areas into larger areas of the outlying city. There are a ton of deer killed in the outer city limits here In Kansas City alone by drivers. I think some of the deer killed here though are deliberately done by kids who think it's cool to hit them with their car, not realizing how big they are and what kind of damage they can do when they get hit by the deer. This in no way is meant to say anything but I'm sorry to hear about your loss up north. Weird accidents do happen.

Sorry for your loss, especially to leave behind a wife and daughter.
Animals are the reason I sold my street bike after moving to where I am now. Still have tons of close encounters en-route to work. It would be really easy for this to happen to anyone, really feel bad for your sister.

I've had deer jump out in front of me on the motorcycle bbefore.
I've also had wolves, rabbits, dogs, snakes come at me in the road. the wolf jjumped out at me at night in pitch black. It just kinda appeared in my headlamps while i was doing 80. missed it by inches.
an (owl?) hit me in the shoulder one time at night on the motorcycle. never saw it. what else could it be? almost knocked me off the bike.
anyways, sorry for your loss. the road is not a safe place.

very sorry to hear about this tragic accident, Hunter. and as a fellow hunter and outdoorsman, i understand the importance of wildlife management. sadly, some states (and provinces) fail to recognize the dangers associated with large number of wt deer on or near our hwys. if we are going to continue to encroach on the wt deer habitat, then we should be responsible enough to cull the numbers to reduce the threat of collisions yet reflect healthy and sustainably numbers.
once again, im sorry for your loss of your bil, Hunter. he sounds like he was a good man..

yes and im willing to bet that's the case for northern Minnesota - plenty of wt's in that era. too many in fact, according to a good friend and outdoors man who lives there. DNR(?) should be offering more licenses to cull the numbers. the number one killer responsible for the largest number of deaths of human beings is bambi. sad, but 100% true.

Same problem here...we have sooo many WT that they are the # 1 cuase of MV accidents every year. Yet the state makes it difficult and expensive for out of state hunter to obtain a deer license. Why would a state want to restrict the easy revenue for them and for local ppl by restricting out of state deer tags.

Just back in from doing the obit and I went out and found his hat, watch etc. My wife has been sitting with my sister who is hysterical and my mom is watching all the little ones. My son who is just old enough to understand how final death is very upset as well. It's worse today then it was yesterday. His parents have stopped over, we are l just tying to spend time together. I had 127 tests messages and probably half of the them are just from nosey people.

You will get that man...don't let it get to ya. Chalk it up to human nature. This will get better in time. Keep the family close and take every advantage to reminise about fun times nad the things that make you laugh when everyone thinks of him. Laughter is a powerful healer. It;s amazing how good everyone can feel when they sit around the table sharing funny stories of your BIL. As was said earlier. You have an extended family here as weel that you can always turn to.
