As long is there is no threat to me or my gf you could literally do anything to him and he would take it. Babys have hung off his face, other dogs half his size have tried to dominate him. But, yes, if another male dog get too close to my old lady and aggresive at all then I have to do something.

Amen to that. But once they gain your trust they are the nicest dogs and obedient dog breeds I have ever seen. The ex has one and she is cool the dog that is. Took a long time for her to trust me properly as she is a rescue dog and was abused but she never ever snapped at me or anything just was very distant until she got completely used to me. Was cool when she trusted me 100% though. As she would just as loving to me as her owner.

Buddy has two Dober's and the two of the are the worst guard dogs ever. They just jump on everyone and want to say hi than anything else.

That said, some breeds do have a disposition to aggression more than other dogs and there's no denying that a bigger dog will do more damage.

I've known little old ladies that have owned perfectly fine staffies and "tough guys" with retrievers. But lets face facts, a golden retriever is far less likely to turn on a person than a pitbull would. That said, certain breeds get a bad rep unfairly. I mean if anyone has seen the size of a St Bernard or Newfoundland they could easily kill a person in the wrong situation. I've known black labs to get pissed off very quickly.

I really love dogs, but of course some dogs are more prone to aggression than others. It pisses me off that people say they like dogs but only own pit bulls or staffs, just seems like a status thing then.

EDIT: In my opinion, there's no such thing as a domesticated animal. If dogs and cats were truly domesticated, they both wouldnt try and kill small animals in the woods (which both animals will do given the chance).
I hate that phrase to be honest. I have known wonderful, responsible dog owners that have done everything right and still ended up with mean aggressive dogs. My sister in law raised Chows (another breed that has to be "respected"). They are a great family and at the time had 2 small children. Never did they promote aggresive behavioor from this dog but yet she was one of the biggest "bitches" i have seen. Mean without provokation.

Yet the net 2 pharagraphs Flagg wrote back up my concern. certain breeds are more PRONE to aggression. Folks...your fooling yourselves if you think that just because your Pit, or Rotty or Doby or any other of those types of dogs is freindly and lovable and lets the kids pull their ears and ride on their backs doesnt STILL have the natural instincts of an attack animal. because of this instinct they are by nature more alert, more aggressive (if provoked) and by their very nature and given their capability for damage, more dangerous (as a breed) to own.

I have never encountered a Pressa (beautiful dog by the way) but have you ever noticed that even while the babies are hanging from it's face it still seems on the alerts, still scans the area, still is ever vigilant as a guard dog? I would assume you see some of this. They still by nature have a job to do. Does not mean they can't be family freindly but they will most likely percieve a threat (real or imaginary) well before more docile breeds. It;s that imaginary threat that scares me. All the sudden little junior does something percieved as a threat or the old man walking with a cane is percieved as a threat.

The potential for these dogs to have their natural instincts take over is always existant...no matter how fun loving they behave on a day to day bases.

Not saying they don't exist but ME personaly...have yet to meet a Dalm. that was overly friendly. Beautiful dogs but by nature not friendly (stange because of the whole lvable fire dog persona).

Where did I say I had him push me to see what he'd do? I was hanging out with some friends and he randomly gave me a shove.

Just re read my initial post, I could see how you thought that. Just the way I talk. Like " I had a tree fall on my car the other day".

A friend of mine married this ****ing asshole. Big macho dude. Got not one but two of these dogs. They paid 10k for both dogs. Needless to both dogs ended up cornering the whole family ( 2 kids under 5 years old) in the house. They had to call animal control and the police. They ended up finding someone to take the dog but it could have ended real ugly.

That dog is not a toy. I want one so bad but it comes with great responsibilities

Again my point is driven home. These words have most likely never been spoken when refering to a Golden Retriever of a Basset Hound lol

they are wary if they don't know you and wait to see what behaviour you display 1st. Have had four in total now and 3 have been gentle as kittens and the big guy (between a dal and Dane in size) would have savaged anyone with no hold back, he was one srsly strong robust dog, sent my mate's big boned Brown Doberman packing once

The ones I have had experience with..maybe only 3 or 4 (dont see em too often anymore) were frindly but as you said "wary". They were definetly protective of their families.
