The pumpkin pie thread: Pumpkin pie is ONLY good cold. I'm sorry.
So it's the Canadian thanksgiving tonight and tomorrow, and as such it is also pumpkin season. I would say pumpkin pie is my favorite pie with 2nd favorite being cherry pie, so i've been trying out different ones the last couple of days since there are tons of different brands all over the supermarket now.
I've always ever had the pie cold, and it's delicious. Even when I was there when someone freshly baked it, I wouldn't eat it warmed. I'd wait until it was completely cool. I bought a pie the other day that on it said "even better heated, try it!" and so I thought to myself i've never had pumpkin pie warmed. I threw a slice into the micro for about 15 seconds and.... well, I wouldn't say it's gross or disgusting, or that I wouldn't eat it. But I would definitely say I won't have it warmed ever again. Something about the temperature that affects the taste in a more negative manner than most other foods and pies. I think it could be because pumpkin pie uses a lot more spices and cloves in it than other pies. It just seems the best cold, or at most room temperature, for some reason!
I am currently trying to make my own home-made pumpkin pie! Just another reason to put that Blendtec blender of mine to more use lol. I am going to just make the batter/filling and just use those pre-made pie crusts, and throw everything into the oven. This way I can control sugar content and all that jazz.
Apple pie warmed? Awesome. With some whipped cream on top!
Cherry pie warmed? Awesome.
Blueberry pie warmed? Awesome.
Pumpkin pie warmed? Not so awesome in my opinion. Who else feels the same?

Hm, never tried it with ice cream... interesting. Usually ice cream goes well with warmed desserts.

I love pie nice and hot, with either cream or ice cream.
Pumpkin isn't really that popular in the UK. My favourite pie is apple&blueberry, cherry comes a real close second. Actually, spiced cinnamon apple pie is good too!!
I wish the pies in the UK looked as good as the American ones I see on 'Man v Food'

cold with ice cream or better fresh homemade whip cream with minimal sugar so it doesn't get overly sweet.
edit: I'll mention my favorite pies, Lemon meringue, but it is best homemade or of high quality if purchased. Also like the cold strawberry pie that has a light glaze and whole strawberries, although that's a once in a while favorite. I do not like chocolate cream or banana cream. Most other fruit pies I like warm. but lemon meringue is by far my favorite, although a key lime pie is tasty.Last edited by SEOINAGE; 10-07-2012 at 12:42 PM.

Who eats it hot? I thought it was always served cold, room temp at warmest. Pumpkin is by far my favorite, with lots of whipped cream!
