    Relaxing your brain

Anyone has any tricks to just stop thinking?

I feel like I've been overthinking everything lately.

I just wanna shut my brain off for like a day and give it some rest.

Yes, but it would involve substances that we are not allowed to discuss on this forum.

Shutting your brain off means you're dead, clinically speaking.

    ^^^Haha!

I enjoy grabbing a beer and playing video games if I need to give my mind a break. It's not really shutting my brain off but I block out everything outside of the game. GTA is my goto...I hop on a motorcycle and rip up the city! It works for me

Prayer.. when I pray for things I'm thankful for before bed it helps. Also the world we live in today is so cushy compared to back when the native americans owned North America just to pick an example. They'd walk their ass off all day looking for food or going to a destination. No doubt they slept like babies and didn't worry about yesterdays woes because they had enough problems of their own with today. Anyway my point is cardio shouldn't be considered optional, and pushing one's self to being utterly tired and out like a light when your head hits the pillow should be a goal once in a while.

It's called meditation. Being able to hold a fixed thought for long periods without distraction.

    And it's hard to do!

Look into mediation. YOu can use light background noise and you just focus on a word or something else. Look up online methods for it and try it

Instead of meditation and trying to clear your mind, which could be a hard task if you have a lot on your mind, try focusing your attention on something else. Puzzles, books, a movie, whatever works that can draw your attention

Like a lot of these guys mentioned, meditation. Check out the book "Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. It examines meditation through a western perspective. You can find PDF's online. Highly, highly recommend.

The mind is its own worse enemy at times.

Given a pair of hands and a knife and fork, the brain would eat itself. Not because it want's to, but because it doesn't want to.

You need to occupy yourself. Either do a group activity with people that know nothing about your maladies so they can't ask you about it, or immerse yourself in something like a deep video game with a lot of levels and lots of things to find/do. My favourite past time is reading, but when something is on my mind, reading doesn't help one bit, nor does a movie which I also like to enjoy, but strangely video games help as a distraction. The video game suggestion is for when you're on your own.

I know I have a hard time when I lay down to sleep even but I find a little white noise helps me a lot.
