Who was that old member?...
Who was that old member from WAAAAAY back in the day like 2003/2004 that was a big name on here, and then scammed a bunch of members, and then shot himself in his car after he led the cops on a high speed chase? For some reason, I was thinking about him today.

My Dad always admonished me to leave a sleeping dog alone, you don't REALLY need to ask "why" ... do you?

While I'm not advocating any type of disrespect of the dead...I am glad this was posted as I myself find the history of this site very interesting. It would seem from things I have seen and heard that this site has undergone tons of changes over the years and in a way it's like a history lesson. I find history very interesting, remeber those who do not remember history are bound to repeat it.
To be clear this has nothing to do with the tragic loss of life or a specific member, just site history...for me anyhow!

We have had our fair share of ups and downs here guys... Think about this: This site is 12 years old and when we started, the internet was a much different place and at that time, I was only 24 years old! Basically, this site was run by a bunch of kids, but the cool thing is, a LOT of those kids are still here and we have all grown and seen a lot. I like that comment about history! I personally think that history can be very interesting.
A lot of us were close to the BigKev chapter and it is strange to see and type his name again.

That's one of the reason I like to bump old threads, mostly funny ones, but if you get a chance, search: swolecat. another member who sadly passed away, and helped so many people here for free when he had his own website where he charged for his advice. that dude was a great guy. I'm gonna go bump the "FVCK YOU SWOLECAT" thread right now in the workout section. you should check it out.

Damn can't find that thread, but the title was "FVCK YOU SWOLECAT!!" or something along those lines, and it was this guy who seriously could hardly walk after doing swolecat's leg training regiment. Swolecat would do 3 warmup sets of leg extensions supersetted with 3 warmup sets of lying leg curls, and then do 4 sets of squats, and that was it. that was leg day. What made it impossible to do more was you would take 3 seconds to go down, and 2 seconds to come up, and you used a weight that you could get to 15 reps physically, and then to 20 reps mentally. If you weren't pitch red, screaming, grunting, collapsing after the set, you weren't doing it right. This was his regiment coming back from a knee injury, because he didn't want to lift too heavy, but some guys started adopting it as their regular leg day, and they had to start wearing diapers, because the walk from bed to the bathroom was too painful lol.

The answer seems simple to me, because people are asking you not to bring it up. it may have been and innocent enough question and only out of curiosity but because there are people who are bothered by it and who knew him it's respectful 2 just leave it alone and as they say let sleeping dogs lye.

It is strange to have someone gone for a while and then bump a bunch of old threads while saying, "remember that one thing that happened way back...that was so funny."
I commented in one of those revived threads that we have enough stupid/funny things going on in real time that we don't need to pull old ones that are made up entirely of people that are no longer active.

It's more about respecting other people's feelings. Not every one is going to feel the same about death and dying as you or I. And for some, it's also a cultural thing, to not speak ill of the dead, not that we are speaking ill.
It's like when you go to someone's house for dinner, and they like to hold hands and pray before dinner. It's not my thing, but I participate out of respect to those that request it. So I hold hands, lower my head, and close my eyes while the host takes a few minutes and gives thanks to the lord.
It's just about respect mate. That's all.

However...this is the lounge where respect is hit and miss! Doesn't the OP have the same rights to post as anyone else? Even if a handfull of members are offended, he hasn't broken any rules per say.
My comment has nothing to do with the particular post, only the ops right to post!

I do the whole praying thing, too, when I am at someone else's house. I will NEVER censor myself, though, and at the same time, I will never say anything on here to intentionally offend anyone. So, if someone's feelings are hurt that I brought up someone that died a long time ago, I am sorry for them, but at the same time, I did nothing wrong.

Those threads are no Citizen Kane.
Maybe start an "oldies but goodies" thread that has a bunch of fun stuff in it rather than have a bunch of old threads back in rotation.
I am giving an opinion but this is not a serious issue for me...please don't think I really have a dog in this fight.

I don't remember. When I joined I did tons of reading but never posted anything. Then I was gone for years with a bad back injury.
I have a pit bull that is dog aggressive. She could take your Yorkie! But seriously, she was a rescue and we are working with her a lot so she is less nervous. I am not that "bad ass pit bull" guy.

It only became something wrong when other people let it be known it was opening up old wounds. Although this is the lounge it doesn't mean anything goes and there is still a certain level of respect expected from us.

Maybe something like JV mentioned. A "Classic Threads" section of select threads deemed to be of of historical value. May be interesting...
Just a thought.

Isn't that the hall of shame thread? Or even graveyard thread. I get my history lessons by reading the earlier pages.

don't get me wrong! I'm not saying he should edit his post or that he has violated any rules. That's not the case. I'm just saying that what he said could be offensive to some. And those that don't like his post also have the right to say they do not like what he is saying. This is called social discourse, and in a big group like this, is common.
The test for all is to try and keep it civil, without flaming anyone. We have already demonstrated as an enlightened group we can do this. We have talked about many sensitive issues before, and it went quite well.
That's all i'm trying to say mate.

meant no disrespect to you or the deceased Gixx...I can see your point. As far as the history comment, that was me. I had heard so many things about some of the sites past and I find the evolution very interesting. It would seem that there is some personal feelings involved here and for that I will say I apologize for posting in here at all and leave it at that!
