What motivates you guys/gals?
Seems of late, I am lacking ambition, which I've never really been short of.
Maybe I'm a typical male, but I was in the habit of living alone, being single and obtaining women was always a great motivator. I recall a few years back my main priorities:
1. Career - And I was unstoppable! Or I thought so
2. Training/body/appearance- While I'm not TOTALLY shallow, I always felt to it helps to feel good about yourself.
4. Home - I wanted to have a nice home, and not acquire a ton of debt. Bought a foreclosure and remodeled.
5. BMW - Since I was about 20, always wanted one. So saved and purchased.
6. Social life - While working a lot, I made it a point to include a social life.
I credit half of my accomplishments to getting laid. I'm in a 2 year relationship now, and seems the motivation had diminished. Some might think "must be nice to relax" but I can't stand it!
I've got a great girl, she's a keeper. But the whole marriage and kids thing just was never something I dreamed about as a kid, or young adult.
Hoping to catch some guidance from a wiser man
regards!

I agree with you. I feel when I'm in relationships my motivation goes to sh*t. Once you get comfortable and you don't really have to try and impress a new girl everyday, it's easier to start skipping the gym. I also find that girls like f*cking candy and sweets too much. I'm not a huge fan of sweets but sometimes to share a moment with your girl you give in and then it made me just wanna go and pull the trigger lol.
But if I may suggest, you should probably still have some kind of life goal to strive towards. And I'm gonna shamelessly promote an app I made for that right now haha:
It's called One Goal, it cost $1.99 and it assists you on writing a long term goal and then you can attach a picture with goal to help you visualize it. Once your goal is setup, it makes you read it twice a day to keep you focused!

If you happen to buy it, I'd love a 5 star review
Don't give up! Make your life epic!

I don't know how to answer this, since I am in a semi similar boat.
Getting looks from strange chix is some motivation along with other guys asking you stupid questions.
As for the rest, I am still trying to figure that out. But, skipping out and turning into a blob sure makes me feel shittier < That I know.

women are obviously a big motivator. even for us married guys its still nice to be admired. also for me because i was a fat kid getting lean as heck is a big motivator. i dont know if i will stay AS motivated once i achieve the look im going for. maybe i will maybe not. but the key right now is gaining the knowledge necessary to get where i wanna be. then ill always possess that knowledge so itll enable me to relax a bit if i so choose

Girls, breaking away from normality and making the most out of my life, making my parents proud, and I like the way I look in the mirror. Girls and athletic performance in HS are what got me into weightlifting and girls continue to be my main motivator to this day. =)

As I get older my motivation is definitely health related first, and second being able to perform my job duties(Ironwork is 90% physical) And last , but not least a combination of feeling and looking good helps with confidence and swagger, plus the wifey diggs it!

Just wanting to be the biggest dude in the room. I loved being the same height as people but 40 pounds heavier.

My mom died at 55 from a heart attack. She had 5 priory plus 3 strokes. Gangrene foot from diabetis.
Her twin died at 57. Same thing.
Then the countless others who died early with bad genetics. I already have heart issues (ST elevation. Left sided inferior)

I guess I liked feeling good about myself when I was sober, for a change-- and it stuck.

I've lost motivation in past relationships. It now I'm dating a girl who's into this like me. She lifts with me, eats healthy, and is great for motivation. Plus girls in fitness are generally attracted to big guys. I know my gf would never date a little twink. Other than that i find a lot of motivation watching zhasni videos and most of my friends are bodybuilders so there's always some friendly competition. As far as general life goes, I find sitting down and really thinking about what I want to get out of life helps. I'm not really religious so making the most of my life and trying to live without regrets is a big motivator.

This is major for me too. Another reason - A cute girl at the grocery store flirted with me a little while today. I was strolling around after shoulders with a big pump. Theres really nothing quite like it. I truly believe %90+ of the public goes to the movies and watches Daniel Craig or Brad Pitt or whoever on screen, for that one moment when a hot girl comes over and blows on their dice at the casino or hands them their number on a napkin. We have the gift to have that happen in real life and its a rush I wouldn't trade for anything.

To be serious about this question, I have to admit that really good looking guys and some girls motivate me to keep on with my routine. I see a lot of guys on our forum keep me wanting to push harder. I figure the only way to attract someone really fit is to mimic them. And that is pretty much true as most BB'ers hang together. Take this forum as a case in point. and when I see up and coming guys like Jeff Seid only 19 and see what he already has accomplished, it blows my mind.
Man if only.................. I wish my genetics were like his and those who have it look it and the rest of us have to try and catch up with our anabolic friends...
The heck with that other guy who flew to fame only to check out in Thailand. My eyes are on this one...Last edited by Shol'va; 12-06-2012 at 05:30 PM.

Thanks for all the feedback!
Appears the problem or issue is typical and common among guys like us.
I've always watch as my friends grow older, had gotten married and just feel apart. The big event to them, is drinking and watching fantasy football. I've always thought, they just gave up.
But it seems to be the way things go as we get older.
I'll just keep fighting it

When I started my motivation was girls. Thats it, in my mind muscles=tang.
Then as the whole body-dysmorphic thing set in, it was the mirror. I was never big enough, and a terrible hardgainer (because my diet wasn't as dialed in as i wanted to believe)
Now I'm happily married, and getting random poon isn't a priority, I've lost a ton of weight because I just don't have the heart to eat the amount of food I need, and my wife likes me on the slimmer side (and is dead against AAS). Now I'm motivated to train by that feeling I get while training. I'm there for me, and me only. Heavy metal cranked on my iPod, pushing myself further than I ever thought I could, the rush as you give it your all, and the satisfaction of exhaustion after. It's the single most selfish thing I have in my life. Thats why I hate workout partners (they never show up anyways) and don't socialize at the gym. I'm also motivated by the future. I want to be able to play with my grandkids. I want to retire as an expat and enjoy my golden years. I want to f*** my wife late into life!!!!
