I've worked in many fields, but it's just to supplement my income so I can continue to pursue my music career.

More like chasing. Problem is you can't really make a living playing classical guitar, at least I can't. And it often interferes with your day job.

You gotta start somewhere! But I can definitely see how it would be difficult making a living. It sucks when the dream doesn't pay the bills and the job paying the bills gets in the way of the dream!!

That's the whole thing, I'm way beyond starting. But I look at it like this, I do the other job so I can continue. It becomes difficult to be telling your boss you gotta miss a few days here and there so you can attend masterclasses or so that you can get rested up for your performance that evening. Add to that being nearly in your mid-30's and having a girlfriend that wants to start a family. Quitting definitely looks like the easier route.

EMS. The pay is sh!t, there's a huge lack of respect from the government towards us here, but it is bar none the most incredible job ever. I should tell the truth, the pay is actually pretty good once you go full time (it takes about 6 years of part time and needing another job to support yourself, this leaves no personal time) and the benefits and pension are fantastic if you have what it takes to make it a career. I've saved lives, told wives/husbands/parents/children that their loved ones have died, delivered babies, and have been involved in many life changing events, some incredible, others horrifying. I can't imagine ever doing anything else.

I actually took classes during my senior year of high school and became an EMT but I only worked as a volunteer and once I needed to take the refresher course I was too busy with college and football I just let it expire...was a great experience for the time I had tho!

If you do stop playing in the band never quit playing. Anytime you get a chance play for your kids when you have them. Dated a girl for a bit whose uncle played in a band. We went to see him play a few times but the coolest thing about it was when we would go hang out with them and their kids, at their house he would break out the guitar and play and sing for 30-45 mins or so. I will always remember those evenings so I can only imagine what his kids think about it.

Toughest decision I ever made leaving the co I was with. 6 months later I can say it may have been best decision I ever made. I can make more $$ but I only get one chance at being with my girls. Glad my wife talked me into it.

I am no longer working. I left the job, state and most of my family back in Va. I was with the co I topped out with for 10 years, very hard to quit. I had a cush job working 4-10s but we worked alot of OT so there were lots of days I didnt see my kids. Miss my parents but the move has been fun. My wife wanted me to spend time with my girls before they grow up. I am probably gonna find a new career or start my own business in August when the baby starts school. I cant see me going back to working 5-7 days a week again.

Good luck with the school. Its not bad as long as you take time to study and do homework. Dont be one of the guys that skims by doing just enough. Also be sure to be on time for work and try not to miss time. If you show some initative guys will be more willing to teach you their trade. I had some good times and worked on some interesting projects. I personally liked the industrial side more than anything and thats where the $$$ is, so when you get on those big jobs dont be the guy that tries to hide from the work. Where are you located?

If you are on time, work hard, and dont stir up too much you will prosper more than likely. There are some exceptions to the rule but all in all its a good trade.

It actually never put a strain on my marriage. I had a very passive wife who understands I was only doing what I felt was best for us. I will say if it did put stress on marriage I would have to leave because like I said earlier I can make more $ but I cant get another wife.....well dont want to.

Man I hate that DC/Maryland traffic! I dont think I could work there. I know alot of guys that worked up that way because it was like 6-7 dollars more an hr but too much drive time for me personally. The extra couple hundred a week would not make a difference if I fell asleep on died on 95. Fredecksburg is a nice location tho cause you do have several locals to work out of. Good luck and stay safe.
