I've seen in posts some of you guys reference your job and how much you like it so I thought I'd find out a little more. I currently work in the insurance world and I'm considering making a change. I like the travel and relationship aspect of my job but the time I spend behind a desk on the phone is getting to me. I'm a hard worker and just feel I can be utilized better and find something more suitable. I've been looking into the oil rigging industry quite a bit, lots of money to be made and I don't mind a hard earned living at all.
What do you guys do for a living and what do you like/dislike about it? Is it something you'd recommend checking out? Also interested in hearing of any potential job openings or areas hiring if anyone is aware of any or knows where I should look (feel free to PM). I am in the midwest of the US but would relocate for the right circumstances so feel free to share anything you feel!
I figured this board would be a great place to inquire and hear opinions since most here are dedicated hardworking individuals, and many of you seem quite well off and that's always a motivating factor!

Land surveying, highly recommend it.
Once you are certified you start at about $40/hour and its the easiest job. Lots of variety, get to work somewhere new everyday and interact with different people alot.

about a year and a half ago, i worked in breast cancer research as a techinician in a lab making drugs for patients and did experiments on mice/rats
it was a great job with gret people, but the pay sucked bad!
i called a friend up, moved states, got out of the medical industry and into the oil and gas industry
best move i have made in my life so far!

Realist: A person who sees things as they truly are. A practical person. The pessimist complains about the wind; The optimist expects it to change; The realist adjusts the sails. — William Arthur Ward

Heavy Duty Plant Mechanic in the mining industry, fly in fly out from home, 14 days straight of work 12-13 hour days in 40-50 dc temps, even hotter at times, then 6 days at home for rest then back to it, up for the gym at 2:45am every day.
Not a long term thing mortgage will be paid in 2 more years, then I'm going to kick back and get into personal training and nutrition, and then commit to getting on stage while I'm still young enough..
