    New cali state record

A good friend of mine set a new Cali State bench press record yesterday. Weighed in at 220 on the dot and got 429.9 for his 4th lift. Congrats bro!! And yes, he is a Canadian

That's awesome! I held the state bench record in Alaska as a teen for all of about 4 minutes, till the guy's record I broke broke my lift by 45 pounds. lol...

Dam good for him! This is a very strong bench press, but also extremely low for a state record. I believe I might be able to break this record in the same weight class. Probably 10 pounds shy at the moment. Only been lifting 2.75 years

Competition paused ? Big difference then a "gym" rep.

2.75 years? Never heard a time-span referenced that way.

I'm gonna retract this statement. Tried a pause rep at 385 and it was a grinder.

His gym bench is probably above 450

True story right here. Huge difference. So many rules for it to count. Butt can't leave the bench, pause on chest, hold lockout, some feds your head can't leave the bench either. Feet can't move or slide. Some make u keep feet flat too. Totally different than a gym rep.

Seriously thanks bro. Still wondering on the weight comparison. Did they weigh him first cause the calories bracket he was in or was it so much above your own body weight?
I know your dead comps are who is under 198lbs.

Uhhh....when I was stationed in Cali one of my friends was 210 benching 465 at the gym....completely natty...he had been lifting for a good 10 years and although it was a "gym rep" I'm pretty sure he could do 430 as a competition rep...oh, and this was 5 years ago that he got 465...who knows what he's at now. I guess what I'm saying is.....should I be impressed by this? I mean sure....it's more than ill ever do, but I'm just wondering if this is considered good.

Was it the Southern powerlifting federation March Madness Powerlifting Meet that he competed in? It's the only CA lifting meet that took place one the day you mentioned.

It's on the fringe of southern and central california. That's an impressive bench your friend has.
