Probably not. It's easy enough for these punks to get into cars with shaved keys, slim jims and the such. NEVER leave anything of value in cars like that.....

Now what you do is find another car, leave a cheap lap top in it and lay a trap waiting for them. Just make sure there are no witnesses when you are done.

Sorry to hear about the loss. It is always a feeling of violation. I have had a few quads stolen even though there were locked up beyond normalcy. If they want it bad enough they will get it.

Sucks but you live and learn. Being from the city I have learned never to leave "shinny objects" in view of people walking by. My BF makes fun of me because even in nice area's ill tell him to put whatever under the seat or the mat. It's sort of a good thing you left the door unlocked or you would also be paying for a window.

That's a shame. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do now. Maybe next laptop, get lojack. You can locate, manage data, and/or wipe clean in case of theft. It's worth the price. Good luck. Ya never know...maybe it will turn up somewhere/somehow.

I hate that fukn feeling, as you illuded to what may really suck is the loss of data on the hard drive.

I am pretty sure there is nothing you can do to retrieve data without a program (and or hardware settings) in place prior to loss. Without pre-existing remote wakeup this would be a huge hole in security that would be easy to exploit.

For you I-phone geeks there is a program that you can install that allows you to not only locate your phone but to remotely erase all data if you wish. It uses the phones GPS and can be accesed over the web from anywhere in the world (the phone of course has to be on and within range of sats for the GPS to work)

IMO there's nothing worse than a damn thief. Maybe the worst type of person there is. I had some tree stands stolen last year and I was pissed for days. Don't say you'd never kill anybody until you've had something stolen because if I would've walked out and seen them stealing my stuff, with my rifle in hand;.........who knows.

Maybe you should have been going without your shirt in that hood so they could see who they might be having to deal with if they got caught...

Do you still have the paperwork. Get it entered as stolen. There is a possibility of it going to pawn.

Dont quote me on this but I was thinking that there is a way for the manufacturer to locate it if it logs on somewhere. Might check with them and see...kind of a long shot.

I have had a few things stolen as mentioned. 2 quads and a trailer parked outside my house with cable locks around both trailer wheels and a tongue lock. After that I installed security cameras outside. I had 3 quads stolen from a locked garage also with large cables ran through the trailer wheels and all the quads locked up with large steel cables and huge pad locks. They had to break into the garage and cut the fence to get out. Meth head neighbors knew my mom died 3 days before so no one was home.

I had a 1980 Toyota PU 4x4 stolen but it has less than 1/4 gallon of gas so they ran out and had to abandon it but not after tearing out the speakers and stereo destroying the dash. Police said they were using skeleton keys at the time. 2 weeks later they tried to steal it again. I was in 2nd story apartment and heard my truck turning over at 11pm Friday night. I knew the sound. I looked out and saw some dude sitting in my truck trying to start it. I walked over to my table and picked up my glock and back to the window making sure he saw me pointing it at him. Never saw a spic run so fast..... I had gotten in the habit of disconecting my coil wire when I got out of my truck to to it being stolen. I was going to connect a wire to a steel button run to the seat to connect the coil to in such cases. That would have been fun to watch.

This is what I hate about the meth heds. They steal from their own family if they can, let alone a stranger. They don't give a fvck about anything but getting money for the next high. They don't care that we work our butts off to acquire stuff only to have them rip us off.
