Anything you don't want anyone else to know about should not be in writing. It's been that way since man learned to write. Instead of clay tablets we have the internet. 50 years from now it will be something else. I'm ok with it, too. It's something I've been careful about since I had a 300 baud modem on my C64 connecting to 'underground' bbs's. Before that, I didn't pass notes in class that I didn't want the teacher to read.

Sysops respected their users privacy way more than the government does now. But it was always a fear of mine that the SPA would have a sweep in my area and take down a few boards then open all the emails and start tracing the phone lines taking everybody down in the area. You had to be careful of what you said because it could get in the wrong hands.
But we've grown used to this false sense of rights to privacy. The truth is we have no rights and so everything we say/do should be done carefully and underground if we want any chance of privacy.

I don't give a shit what they're looking for, they shouldn't be invading our privacy. If they want to spy on you, they should get a warrant first.
But we can't stop the government from invading our privacy. The US government is way too big and powerful for anyone to stop them. The only way to protect our "right," is to be more covert and paranoid than we are.

Realist: A person who sees things as they truly are. A practical person. The pessimist complains about the wind; The optimist expects it to change; The realist adjusts the sails. — William Arthur Ward

David Cameron must really be a fan of things like 1984 for the wrong reasons.
Remember, when they want to watch what you are doing, its because we need to THINK OF THE CHILDREN and THINK OF TERRORISM!
This is going on everywhere though.

Hell, if you look at a 1940s Social Security card it specifically says, "For Social Security Purposes - Not For Identification" The government is always full of Sh*t

I didnt read any of the responses....but NSA has been monitoring ALL telecommunications with ECHELON. Prism or any other surveillance program you have heard of pales in comparison to what data Echelon gathers, records, and analyzes.
