Best one??
I'm looking to possibly getting a credit card for emergencies (like running out of gas a few days ago lol). Do you all have recommendations as to which company you prefer for this and why?

Amex, Black.

the black card (dont remember which company) offer got in the mail had an annual fee of 500 bucks. Guess what I done with it...
Stick with a debit card.

Capital One
AmeX is just not that widely accepted. Just like Discover, which was my favorite for a bit.

Just look for any visa or mastercard with low interest and no annul fees. I have never found anywhere that didn't except Visa.
Odd thing, even the dollar store by my house excepts paying by Paypal...that's some weird stuff.

Honestly if a check being delayed put you in enough of a pinch that you had to run out of gas...a credit card may not be the wisest of decisions.

If you must get a credit card, freeze it in a large block of ice. By the time it thaws you won't want to use it.
I'm a cash/debit card guy. Cut up my last CC 10+ years ago. Never again.

Definitely sound thinking. I would get into that thing at the end of each month and get deeper and deeper. I over drafted my DEBIT card last month not intending. How the fvck do ya do that. Well now I know. So it set me back $7o.00 this month , ouch !!
Lost my credit25 yrs. ago. I don't need credit, be careful man credit can ruin a person. Just another thought. ...crazy mike

I'm not going to get too deep into a financial debate.
But, if you make credit work for you - It works out in your benefit.
Debt management is key, but teaching someone this can take a life time.

On my first marriage we got a credit card for emergency purposes.
$5800 and a divorce later I learned that it is best to just save your money and keep a card with no more than $1000 limit. Most emergencies should be handled from your savings account.
Credit cards can make a person make very unwise purchases. It is a lot harder to hand over 5 - 100 dollar bills than it is to give a credit card for a $1500 purchase. Ay least, it is for me. Cash is king.
If you really want it for an emergency, get it and then give it to your Grandma or your Mom and tell them it is only for an emergency. I would have to be very desperate to explain to my Grandma why I needed it from her.

I'm sorry for you & your families loss. God willing, bad times like that will be few & far between.
If you really need to get a credit card for the occasional hard times such as you described then do it. What I did before I cut up my old credit card years ago was build up a emergency fund in my interest baring account. When I had what I felt was a good "cushion" in that account for unexpected bad times, I paid off the balance of the card & closed the account. When you close it specify that they state "Account paid in full, closed per card holders request". That's so when you have your credit checked for whatever reason, that old credit card account shows without a doubt that it was closed on good terms & not negatively effect your credit scores.
Good luck to you in the future, we all go through rough financial times. They suck balls but it's all about digging yourself out of that hole & doing what it takes to not fall into again.

I use Amex because of the cash back mostly for gas and Visa for most everywhere that wont take Amex for air miles.
Who cares about interest as long as you pay it off monthly. I have my bank set up to auto pay 100% of the bill each month. I have charged over 10K in a month and paid it off. Yeah, they hate me. LOL

That's badass. I can't imagine walking in & paying for a new bay boat with credit card rewards. If that did happen to me I would need to know if I can post bail with a CC, I would get hooked up by the County S/O for running through the store naked screaming about my new boat.

Yeah I get that but it's just when it comes to buying amo, hunting gear, survival gear I dont like to leave much of a paper trail. It's easy for someone to make you out to be a survivalist (fanatic) if they want just by lumping a bunch of purchases together especially to those who dont make such purchases.
Example, Ariel Castro who kidnapped and kept the 3 girls for years imprisoned. They kept focusing on the fact he had some large chains in his back yard. They were NOT the type of chains you would use to bind someone. They were the type you would use for pulling a car, pulling stumps or securing something big. I have and know several people who have similar chains in their yard, work shed etc but they way they showed it the chains alone made him look like a bad person. It's all about how things are presented.
I am FAR from a survivalist, I'm not an avid hunter, I dont collect guns or weapons but if you lump all my past purchases over several years together it can easily look that way and 99% of the people would believe it.
If you follow the government/Fema suggested disaster supply kit that alone depending on how it's presented can make you look like a extremest.
