wth i feel confused an violated

okay I know the Site and members have changed a lot.

some trusted people have done some pretty untrustworthy things lately.
But I honestly didn't think any of this would affect me personally.
Until tonight.
So I have been texting and calling other females from the board here for quite some time.
All the sudden tonight I had a vibe about a text I received from someone that's a member here who i text often -so I decided to google her number.
Yes she is a member here. & I think she even has a spouse that's a member here Too.
I google her number and it comes up being from the Virgin Islands which is not where she originally told me she lives.
Not only does it say its a Virgin Islands zip code but also is listed under a ghost or scam area code.

I go through more specific search for her spacific phone number and it comes up under a list that includes a hundred other known spamer phone numbers. Along with many different sites reporting the number stating not to receive a calls or to call this phone number if you are initiated by text from this person because somehow people that do call or receive calls from the number and up with hundreds of dollars charged to their phone bill.

so here I am torn because I feel like I know this person yet I've never actually met this person and it's highly possible they could be a scam artist. On the other hand possibly I have the wrong information? And she is a legitimate individual that is who she say she is.
Either way I am extremely uncomfortable or less and so not used to friending people that I dont trust.
A year or two ago I probably would believe her when she says she's not a scam artist but currently after all the shadiness going on here I'm more inclined not to beleave her.

this makes me feel like a piece of garbage but on the other hand I'm extremely irritated and feel a little violated at the fact alone that I don't feel safe.

I have shared some things with her and did consider her a friend so I was upfront and I told her that I thought she was a scam artist and I told her about the sites and I even sent her a link to one and said I wouldn't call or text her anymore.
As far as I'm concerned if she is legitimate she knows now where I am coming from and should be able to understand my concerns.
I told her I would see her on the boards but I won't text or call her.
you know who you are.
And without definite proof I will not call you out because I feel that would be unjust.
But I do hope that in some way the screening process maybe a little more strict Here in case of spammer or a scammers .

hey if you are legitimate I would seriously suggest you post something under the comments on one of the links I sent you and Google your number an post on some of the other sites because I'm sure you wouldn't want people thinking that your a scammer if you are not.

Relax. Lot's of people use anonymous numbers when communicating with people online. Google phone app is anonymous. It's how you protect yourself. Never ever give out your real phone number. I've given folks my number, but not my personal number, just an anonymous one that can't be traced. Many scamming companies and debt collectors use these anonymous numbers and they are recycled, which is why there may be history online regarding that number.

Never trust anyone online, no matter how much friendship you've developed. Never ever ever. Internet friends are to remain internet friends. Don't meet anyone in person, ever.

I do have a very close friendship with someone I met on this board who used to date someone on this board. And I think maybe because Of that that particular member here that I'm friends with ( we talk an are friends on Facebook and do call and talk an she was going to pick me up from the airport in Illinois so i could visit tiger shark) I just let my guard down as far as talking with other members here.

it just sucks because I don't know exactly what the deal is and I kind of feel like crap because she may be legit and hurt by my accusations.

I just googeled my number and it says i live in france so take that with a grain of salt bra. But you should always use a pre paid phone and change your number at least once a week when talking to peeps you dont no.

I totally agree. The internet is dangerous if you start interconnecting your real life with people you talk to and 'met' online. You could be.conversing with a serial killer, a.9 year old boy playing the role of 30something gym woman. Anything you canimagine is going on somewhere on the net right now.

I have people I work with in real life who do not have my phone number and will not get it. As mentioned, treat the interweb world as just that. If you don't meet someone for a very extended period of time, who knows who they are.

People flake out on friends that are close to them. At least then you know who they are, online is damn near a make believe world. You can be anyone you want - no one will know the difference.

As far as the catfish crap goes - shit, if I start some sort of close relationship online & it seems good, a plane ticket within the US is under 500 Bucks.
