I write one check per month payable to the glorious IRS. Every time I write it the patriotism overwhelms me to the point of tears.

Haven't used a chq book in over 3 years in my business. Everything is EFT or Credit card. Too hard to manage accounts as funds don't clear out or in for days

same here...cash or CC...no checks...to damn of a hassle for me plus temptation to write delayed checks would be too high and dont need extra headaches
over here checks are used as collaterals or promise of payment...like say you buy something and u want to pay it in 3 installments, you make 3 checks dated 3 months apart...this guarantees the vendor he will get his money on time...
never liked this concept

The only time I use a check is if I need to transfer funds from one bank to another and I just write it out and take a picture with my mobile. Otherwise just debit or credit card for me.

lawn guy and maid pfffff! Around here those are my titles and I get squat!
I write one check a month for local utilities (it's a Podunk town). There are a few small stores and restaurants that wont take debit card (don't want the fees for the machine), so a check is unfortunately necessary.

I have the same box of checks from the 1990's. Maybe write 1 or 2 a year. Everything is setup on automatic bill pay or automatic withdraw.

Better yet, just send me an email like the 2 Chrises telling me how much I owe. That seems to be the trend of late!

I used to write checks each month because I liked to see that I've done it and it gets my attention as to the fluctuation of utilities and a few others that change. The bank will auto send my payments out but I haven't got comfortable with type of tracking my budget.
Since, because of my mistakes as to the timing or mail and other misc. reasons it gets there late. I have changed to calling each paid day and using my debit card. Just have two that I have to mail or stop and drop off. I se the payments on my account the next day. So I don't carry cash or write checks. ..crazy mike

I've submitted the auto draft form on the IRS website a good 4-5 times and for some reason it never gets accepted. After I submit it, I'll call and ask what's going on and no one can tell me they ever even got it. Anyway, thanks for the link. pay1040.gov isn't a valid site, did you mean pay1040.com? Does that look like what you're talking about?
And yes, I received an audit for 2004 tax yr and ended up owing more and then in paid short in 2009 and 2010. What sucks about 2004 is I paid a big fat ass chunk to this supposed fantastic accountant to do them. 2009 and 2010 I simply had a rough run.
